Sorry I didn't realize this apk was needed when I first posted this video.
In this video I will show you how you can change your resolution settings from INSIDE your Oculus Go without needing to have your PC hooked up to it every time. You WILL need to connect it to your PC in order to activate ADB over TCPIP on port 5555. Once you do that, you're golden until you reboot your Go. Every time you reboot your Go, you will need to connect it to your PC again in order to restart ADB on TCPIP port 5555 in order for these apps to work. Also every time you restart your Go, all these settings revert back to defaults. None of this is permanent so you can't do anything permanent to your Go with these.
These apps launch from within Oculus TV. Once you sideload them they will show up in Oculus TV and just run them from there. Once you click on it a black screen will pop up for 1 second which indicates that the command has run and SHOULD mean it's run without any errors but even so once in a while you have to click on the icon a second time for it to work.

Just to be clear, if i just turn off and restart my Oculus Go, I just need to go back to Oculus Tv and run the app from the menu. I only need to reconnect to PC if a real Reboot is needed.

Also saw a video about OEM bootloader on the Go, I'm not even gonna touch it don't wanna brick my baby haha, but could this be the start to being able to use cardboard or daydream apps on the Go with a compatable controller?

K Kerr thank you!!! I don't think I've seen the video you're taking about regarding the oem boot loader unless you're talking about the option of OEM Bootloader unlock. Then I have seen it. I actually discovered that option about 2 weeks before that video went up. I selected it but nothing changed on my Go. Still couldn't use fastboot on it so it wasn't much of a discovery. For example I am still using an LG G4 that has that exact same option but in all this time no one has been able to unlock the Bootloader for the model I have. So it seems sometimes that option doesn't do anything. Thanks for the love! I got more videos to make but this one was my biggest project that I was working on and the most excited about!

Chris Wilce the TCPIP is because these apps are communicating directly with the ADB running on your Go. I've got a C64 emulator running. I posted a video of it a week or so ago. Check it out!

Awesome video! If you're ever looking for a new project for a video, I would LOVE to see one that explains how to use a terminal emulator on a rooted Android phone to send ADB commands to the Go. When I'm traveling and I have to reboot, I'm stuck with factory resolution until I get home to my PC, so I'd like to be able to send the ADB resolution commands via my phone. Great work!

Sorry I never replied to this comment. I don't remember seeing it. I wouldn't recommend recording on the Oculus Go if you can help it as it taxes the HMD and leaves less resources for other things, however if you really want to, you can record using the command "screenrecord" in adb. However it only records in 3 minute intervals after each you have to reissue the command. You can however sideload screen recording apps that work on your android device to capture the entire screen, both eyes and then edit that in a 3D video editor.

Great work man!! Unfortunately I have a macbook so it was a little bit difficult on getting this to work but I was able to offload the apk files using VRsideloader and then using the console option on adBlink I was able to correctly input ADB TCPIP 5555 on the terminal to restart the ADB.

Just a tip for ppl using SideQuest. You can run adb commands from within SideQuest. Top right menu, icon looks like a screen with an arrow pointing to the right. Your Oculus has to be connected with usb ofcourse! :) It doesn't seem to make a difference in video playback though (decoding). Only GPU rendering.

When you do a simple reboot of your device, NOT a factory reset, just restarting it, all these settings go back to default. This changes the texture resolution on the Go. It only works based on how an app or game renders itself, so you won't notice this in all app/games. For example, in Oculus HOME, this WILL affect how the controller looks, but nothing else, that's because the controller is rendered differently than the rest of the Oculus Home environment. However this does carry over to many many apps and games. Best way to notice is to just try the 512x resolution and see what things start looking really bad. It's those things that will look even BETTER when you increase the resolution above 1024! :) Going in and out of sleep mode will NOT revert these changes. Has to be a reboot.

Yes there are apps that have this built in and some have it in their options, for example KIN is one of them, you can change the resolution inside that game and also Catan is another, but there are more.

Sir - I just performed what you stated for 2560x and then exited from Oculus TV. I then loaded VR Desktop and after my cpu desktop came up, I then used Nvidia control Panel to reverse the 1080P settings of my desktop that was forced by the Virtual Desktop app back to 4k. I then loaded Deadpool 2 in 4k from KZbin. It played in 1080P but my point is the Oculus Go displayed it 10x crisper than before when I did not use the 2560x app. It seems the 2560x app settings perhaps carried over into displaying my desktop in 3840x2160 as my desktop settings state and now my desktop and games are truly crystal clear. I played Destiny 2 and the images on the Go were as crisp as the 4k Sony Bravia screen that the VR Desktop was emulating. I am seeing greatly increased resolution and much sharper images displayed on my Go screen than before when I did not have the 2560x loaded. Your thoughts? Am I crazy, or am I really rocking full 4k on this Oculus Go now from the input of my cpu by doing these things?

Actually I have found that these resolution changes actually DO improve pictures and video streams on SOME applications! I haven't tried it yet on Virtual Desktop however, I will give it a try. One way you can test it, is use the 512x resolution and see if it makes video look BAD in VR Desktop! If so, then yes, you know that 2560x is making an improvement! :) Let me know!

The 512x resolution did not shut off the screen and restart in in oculus tv like the others, so I may not have that app installed correctly. The others performed as expected in your video to confirm they were accepted by a shutdown to black screen on Oculus tv and a restart of it. Will have to try to reinstall 512x app to see what happens.

Sir - I can positively confirm that the 2560x app upped the Go video display to 4k or near 4k resolution. I started my go normally without the app loaded and not in TCPIP 5555. I then went to my Virtual Desktop via the Virtual Desktop app and loaded my desktop from my gaming cpu. As usual, the VR Desktop app loaded my desktop in 1080P. Even at this point I could easily tell the 2560x app had been working since the text for the individual icons on my desktop were now very blurry and with the 2560x app turned on, they had been crystal clear at 1080P. I further tested by taking my desktop back from 1080P to 4k still without the 2560x app loaded and noted that the icon text, though clearer, remained grainy and spotty. I then disconnected from my VR desktop back into the Go and loaded your 2560x app from Oculus TV after enabling TCPIP 5555. This time I had the ADB Shell Command Tasker Plugin loaded whereas in my previous sessions at the beginning of my journey into this it had not been sideloaded properly into the Go, although the 2560x app did seem to work within the VR Desktop App without the ADB Shell Plugin being present (weird but true). So, with TCPIP 5555 enabled and the 2560x app enabled, I reentered into the VR Desktop and immediately saw clarity of all my desktop icon's text even at 1080P. I then upped my desktop resolution to 3840x2160 via Nvidia Control Panel as I had been doing previously and the clarity improved even more in the Oculus Go video screen. The clarity was enough that at full screen of your video on this page, I was easily able to read the text on the app you were using at 2:10 through 2:27 on your video with the Oculus Go. I think that pretty much confirms that the 2560x app was working quite nicely on the Oculus Go's resolution. Destiny 2 at max settings with the 2560x app enabled in VR Desktop yielded 4k or near 4k content at 55-60 fps using a GTX 2070 video card. The clarity in the game is excellent now using my Go with the 2560x app loaded whereas before it was not with same settings and just playing without the app. Excellent work sir! The 2560x app seems to set a resolution within the Go video display that closely matches the 4k output from my cpu. You are also correct that you have to upload the 2560x app each time you start your Go since I did have it loaded before shutting my Go down and restarting to begin the testing process of without your apps and then with.Important side note for all users: Do not enter VR desktop with the 512x app loaded and then exit the VR desktop app with a 4k resolution desktop still enabled. I entered VR Desktop app without issues and after engaging 4k on my VR desktop I looked around a bit and no issues, but upon exiting the VR Desktop app with 512x app enabled and my 4k resolution on my VR desktop still engaged, I experienced a blue screen system crash on my gaming cpu I was connected to. I did not write down the crash report although it likely would have been of use here. The 2560x app and the other app resolution just below that one had no issues upon exiting the VR Desktop app while my cpu desktop was still in 4k resolution. The 1500ish x app I did not test since my GPU has the power to utilize the higher resolution settings of the 2560x app without issues since getting 60FPS at max game settings is good enough to play easily without any real stutter or jitter. So there was no reason for me to go to a lower resolution on my Go display. Once again, great work, sir!!

These are specific commands that work with the Oculus Go. You wouldn't find them just by looking up adb commands. Thank you very much. I can tell it works when I switch to 512 and then to 1536x...but overall my oculus feels blurry. I have perfect eye sight, yes I wiped the lenses and adjusted the headset properly. But it just seems blurry, especially if you try Samsung #befearless experiences in Oculus Go. It’s frustrating. Is it a faulty set or can I adjust that?

I've had this same experience, which is what motivated me to look for increasing the resolution. Only thing I've found is try moving your area of view inside the Go to be a bit toward the bottom off centered, nothing too drastic. I used to use reading glasses with it and it made it fine visually for me but they scratched my lenses. So try centering the Go on your face on different parts of the lenses and if that doesn't work then maybe yours is faulty? Let me know 👍

For those that wear glasses, if you take a piece of foam rubber or some non-compressible material( I used toilet paper rolled into a thick, long strip) and push it into place along the top edge between the plastic frame of the Go and the foam face piece, it pushes the Go off your glasses so you can wear them without scratching the lenses any longer. Another Jury rig solution of mine, but effective.

Sir - I heard you state the 1024x app is the default resolution for the Oculus Go. How high can we go before the Oculus Go video display becomes unstable? The 2560x app of yours works great although I wonder exactly what output that equals? It is close to my desktop resolution of 3840x2160, but not exactly there since there is a very slight decrease in the res of the Go vs. my display when using the 2560x app. The new GTX 2070 I am using is rated for 8k, although my 70 inch Sony Bravia is rated for a native 3840x2160 at 60Hz. My question is can you create an app of this type that goes just a little bit higher than the 2560x app to accommodate users with high end video cards? I have seen other videos that state the max resolution for the Go to be about 6k. If that is so, perhaps an app just a bit higher than 2560x could be made for even more clarity for VR Desktop users? :)

The resolution apps don't change the resolution of the screen, but rather the texture resolution. In all honesty I am not entirely certain how it call works but it's kind of like changing texture quality in a PC game. Usually you can select Low, Medium, High, Ultra, etc.. That's what this is doing. As far as how high can you go? I've gone up to 4096 but I think it caused to Go to just glitch out. Also it depends on which games and apps you use. Some leave a lot of headway for the resolution increase and still play buttery smooth when you go to 2560, but some start lagging bad. For example, Coaster Combat, seems like even if I just go to 1536, it doesn't play as smoothly. Also other games and app have started already implementing this into their program, so that when it starts up, it signals an increase, for example, Oculus Rooms does this, you can see the Logo blink and become clearer, that's when it's uping it's resolution, Skybox does this also, and more and more are doing this. It's hard to tell sometimes but in those cases these resolution increase apps actually end up causing THOSE apps and games to have an even HIGHER resolution, in which case, you may get some lag. Hopefully that makes sense? Let me know! :)

As I am not a programmer, just a user, I have no understanding of code or making any changes in code. I was just wondering if you had created yet something a bit higher than 2560x that people could tinker with to see how it works with different apps as well as the VR desktop. I just finished The Crow in 2560x and it was amazing in the detail. The downside was increased heat production but I solved that easily with a Blue Ice block I use with my lunchbox and wrapped that icy into a light dish towel. Then just touched it lightly to the Go while I watched the movie. LoL. Definitely a jury rig sort of thing, but very effective in cooling the system and stopping the overheating that seems to come with the increased resolution. Also as the heat rose, that is when I started seeing frame rates drop more and when I cooled it down, frame rates went to butter smooth again, even with the Crow's large amount of rendering. In 2560x it is jaw dropping 3D. Will try other apps to see how they do although I am more of a PC nut playing Destiny 2 and World of Warcraft using the Go at High resolutions, of which the 2560x app just made it super amazing in combination with a 4k desktop.

Thanks. I tried other apps within the go and as you stated, some of them did not like the high resolution and frame rates did drop drastically making things go to slow motion, but many it had no effect on the frame rates, just increased heat production causing the go to stop due to overheating, but my solution kept that at bay. During transitions in games, I would just take off the Go and place it on top of my homemade cooler and the heat became a non-issue. With my Go screen set to constant on even when I remove it from my face, it makes it easy to transition in games and still take advantage of the cooler. As a side note, I have had no overheat issues yet on VR Desktop games from my PC using the 2560x app.

However I've loaded some that just don't work or show a blank screen on the TV. That is a lot of fun. I'm on a hunt for more and more and have some vids I've still got on the list to make from games I've already been successful at getting to run well in Oculus TV :)

It uses the Go controller! Sadly gamepads aren't supported yet in Oculus TV. The only reason the Steam Controller works is because it's directly communicating with the Steam Link app and ONLY works with that app.

The first part no, because this is only working with what is already built into the system, it doesn't do any VR overlay, nor is it capable of it, it just changes system variables that already exist and are open to being changed. If i try and install it shows them as installed. I get an error Install_Failed_already_exists. What am I missing? I am in developer mode. @@TheDru-SneakAholic they will only show up in Oculus TV. You can install Oculus TV from the Oculus store. Once that is installed just open Oculus TV and the apps should show up under the unknown sources area of Oculus TV, they don't show up in unknown sources of the home environment, only Oculus TV. Also remember to install the second file in the video description, I forgot to include that one in my video but it is necessary for these apps to work correctly.

Hoping for some guidance please. I followed this video exactly and also sideloaded all the APKs correctly. I have successfully enabled ADB over TCP/IP on port 5555. When I click on the resolution APKs in Oculus TV, nothing happens. The screen does not turn black and the resolution does not change. I also made sure nothing else was connected to port 5555. I entered command ADB disconnect. Any help or suggestions please?

I had one other person say this happened. I am unable to reproduce this and I even got a 2nd Go. So I'm unable to troubleshoot it first hand. What happens when you try to uninstall the apk? What method are you using to uninstall it?

Actually this DID happen to me ONCE, and turns out it was because I had something else running in the background, guess it must have been preventing the app from running? Not sure but after I killed whatever it was the app ran fine.

This doesn't seem to make videos look any better so you can keep the resolution default or maybe even lower it for longer batter life using the 512x resolution. However video playback SHOULD look the same and not be affected by this, from what I understand. I personally have not seen this make video look any different. @@BryceChristiansen ah ok that makes sense. From what I've seen this won't make video playback look any clearer, however I have seen it make some apps display images much clearer. It depends on how the application is implemented. Only way to know for sure is to try it on a per app basis. However again I've never seen this do anything yet for video quality.

Let me list my steps maybe I am still doing something wrong. 1 plug in OG 2 Run CMD 3 input cd C:/adblink in CMD 4 type adb tcpip 5555 5 OG reconnects under 5555 and I then unplug my cord from OG 6 type adb disconnect in CMD 7 try the sideloaded resolution apps in Oculus tv Still stalls and then goes back to where I can see all the app. Computer and OG are also on same wifi network.

Then also install Oculus TV using the Oculus App on your phone, just search "Oculus TV' and "purchase" the app, it's free, and tell it to install onto your phone. Then we'll go from there ;)

Yeah install the apks in the links provided. I think the reason it wasn't set that was is because developers have the option of ramping up the resolution in their apps, so Oculus started off with a low base in order to conserve resources and left it up to developers if they want to increase the resolution of their own apps.

Sideload them onto your Oculus Go via ADB. But you can't do that if your Go isn't in developer mode. I put the link to a very good how-to video for that in the video description. It's the same video that I learned from.

Itsuji L'Hitsuji make sure the port is not already in use by your computer. If you're connected to your Go from your computer over TCPIP then you need to type "adb disconnect" on your computer. Then those apps will work. Let me know! 👍

Ok first question, how are you sideloading them? Are you doing it with the command prompt or with something like adblink? Secondly, when you are sideloading, how are you connected to the Go? Are you connected via USB cable or via WiFi "adb connect 192.168.1.52:5555"? Or whatever the IP is of your Go.

There are 2 drop box links. They are both working for me. I don't think I can post these files on GitHub because they aren't part of any open source project. What error are you getting when trying to download them because I just opened them in a private window and it works no problems for me.

I opened it on my phone on chrome and told chrome to load the desktop version. Or try it on your computer on chrome. It's working both on my phone and my computer so the site is for sure working. Maybe try it in a private tab or even another browser? Maybe you have an extension that's causing an issue? Or again try it on your phone and set chrome to desktop mode.
