So nuanced. So interesting how one has to learn to hear and speak the language before we can even think about writing in Chinese characters; Unlike western languages or those that have phonetic lettering where often those languages are taught from reading first (a big mistake with any language (IMO).

Your seven day series of videos are so so helpful. They have been well thought out and you have obviously put in a lot of work preparing them. Well done! And thank you! Great material.

-n and -ng endings in the 4th tone sound very similar to my ears
@newwayofstudyingrussian98696 ай бұрын
Thanks, but those syllables are quite obvious how to pronounce. Could you please expand on the difference between dian and jian, die and jie, xin and xing, jin and jing please

I can't differentiate zh and j / ch and q / sh and x . what's wrong with me?🤧
@emperorarima32252 жыл бұрын
They're really similar and I assume English is your native lang? They're allophones (sounds the same) to us. I think SEEING how they're pronounced, and also appreciating that j,q,x usually FEELS like it's bringing an i along with it, like Xiang, Jie, Qi, even the qu/ju/xu has an umlaut which is a vowel that answers the question "What if i an u had a kid?"
