I just renewed my passport. But I did it overseas. Decided to spend winter in Colombia 🇨🇴 and my passport expires this year in September. They told me 6-8 weeks. I got my passport in 4 weeks. Spoke to a diplomat and she said it's easier to renew overseas. I know not everyone can spend as much time as me overseas but if you can, it's better. Sent in my passport January 13th. Got it back Febraury 10th. Literally 4 weeks apart.

I still had (4) years left on my passport - (expiration was 2027)...but I only had (3) blank pages left for stamps, so I had to send it in for renewal. It took exactly (20) days to get renewed passport back - that includes the mailing time. I've had it back for a week now so this is current.

Put in my application for a new passport in November for an international trip in April and STILL haven't received it! Tracker says agency received it 11/28. It's been way over the 8-11 weeks indicated on the portal, and the worst part is I can't do anything about it until 2 weeks before my trip. Just hoping for good news in he next 1 to 2 weeks

Over a year ago they warned passport new and renewals could take a long time to process since they had a back log since the pandemic. Passports last 10 years, so renew as soon as you are eligible to do so. I wonder if the woman in the story didn't know about making an appointment since her travel was coming up, or maybe they didn't have appointments available. My Global Entry expired months ago and I submitted the application for renewal several months before that, but thankfully they're allowing up to two years beyond expiration to use; hopefully it doesn't take that long to get it approved for interview.

Passports should be mandatory at age 18. With over 60% of Americans without a passport, there was no need to hire masses of people. Now the travel bug has bitten a sizable population at the same time (including renewals). Expecting the dept to fast track your passport because of a cruise, etc. is unrealistic. If everyone had passports as much as they have other IDs, it would decrease the load. I understand the cost isn’t there for everyone… US prices it high for a reason.

This is great news to have NOW but I am livid! I have had to cancel 3 trips in the past 4 years due to COVID and family death, got married last year and we decided to finally book our honeymoon for our 1 year anniversary and the post office says “you’ll have it in time, no worries” what they did not say was it will take a whole month to get to processing, and another 3 months after that to even receive it. There is too much misinformation out there and had I known that there were such delays I would have applied back in December so we could hopefully have them by the end of April. This is ridiculous.

GMA, please continue to followup and cover this worsening issue. The delay problem is specific to the Online Passport Renewal (OPR) system. People who renewed passports by mail or in person are getting their passports regardless of increased volume. Those who renewed online are getting screwed! Please HELP in getting action and solution to this on going mess.

This happened to one of my coworkers, it sucks because you buy expensive tickets and put down deposits on tours. The good thing is that you can get travel credits for refunded tickets. If you’re worried about your passport getting delayed, buy a refundable ticket.
