That probably works, too! And won't damage the coin. Thanks for the suggestion!

Happy Thanksgiving! I always loved it when there's silver or even an old Victorian era coinage. Like you, I also loved the early version of the reverse for the 50-cent piece designed by George Kruger Grey. It's often impressive that all of the reverse designs made by him are the most recognized ones in all of the coinage in across the British Empire.
@CADRollHunterАй бұрын
Those designs are iconic, for sure!!

@@CADRollHunter for real, man. KG would be happy to see his designs go on even to this day in Canadian coinage as well.

Thanks, Pierre! I love these coins in particular. I think it's because when I was a kid, because they didn't circulate, they were 'special.'

@@CADRollHunterhi I have a quick question . I have a box of machine wrapped Canadian dimes and quarters. Is there any chance of finding silver or does the mint take them out?
@CADRollHunterАй бұрын
@@CoinChaser1 The Mint has an Alloy Recovery Program (ARP) that is actively removing copper, nickel, and silver from older Canadian coins. Coins that pass through the distribution centre are all screened and these older coins will be removed, just leaving the modern multi-ply plated steel nickels, dimes, and quarters. Boxes that have passed through this system will contain machine-wrapped rolls, and will be stamped (e.g., Nov 29, 2024 Brinks ARP). In those boxes you won't likely find anything older than the year 2000. Not all machine wrapped rolls are ARP, though. Some businesses that accept a lot of coins wrap their own coins (e.g., transit systems, car washes, etc.), and anything goes. In my area I tend to avoid machine wrapped rolls as they are almost always ARP. Having said all that - even if it is ARP, you'll likely still find lots of colourized and commemorative quarters. In the dimes, you might find a colourized dime. So, I'd still open them up - you never know what might still be in them.
@CoinChaser1Ай бұрын
@@CADRollHunter thank you this really helped me. So should I keep all colourized coins? Are they worth more? Also are the nickel and copper coins worth more?

I'm surprised you have a good rapport with a junk dealer and can get coins a reasonable cost. Most of the junk dealers I'm familiar with try to sell coins for outrageous sums of money.
@CADRollHunterАй бұрын
It's probably more because he's an antique dealer, and isn't so interested in coins. And he probably buys them for much less than I'm paying...

@CADRollHunterАй бұрын
17x face is a tremendous deal. A few months back I was paying 15x face. My local lcs would probably charege 25x or more, for sure.

Acetone breaks down the glue on coins like your large cent, takes time be patient. Also I never tried it on copper coins I would test on a coin you don't care about.

I've done a couple videos where we use Acetone to remove tape/glue residue and it's worked really well. This coin would definitely be a good candidate!
