The Price of Salt was written by Patricia Highsmith under a pen name, and gained a lot of attention the other year when a movie version came out under the title 'Carol'. Not surprised to see it going for high prices.

Dorothy Kilgallen was a controversial newspaper columnist, and regular panelist on "What's My Line?" Her sudden death by booze and barbiturates is still considered controversial to this day.
@JulesBurt3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the information. Does her untimely passing contribute to her collectability, do you think?
@scribewell3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Her death is prime fodder for conspiracy theorists, who like to point out how she not only interviewed Jack Ruby, but reportedly kept a secret file on JFK. (Lee Israel's 1979 "Kilgallen" is a good source, and also goes for big bucks on Ebay. My copy was gifted to me by a friend who was clearing attic space.)

William Irish was a pen name of Cornell Woolrich, while I know of Dorothy Kilgallen through her being a panellist on the original US version of What's My Line. She was mainly a prominent journalist and crime reporter until her early death in 1965, which many have linked to the Kennedy assassination plot.

Excellent show Mr Jules! Wow, its just hard to believe how some of the movie tie in books go for soo much money. If I only knew, I could have easily had those books years ago and just kept to sale them later. The James Bond book you showed last is just unbelievable! Great investments for sure! Great video sir! Thanks!🥇👍🏻

Wow. I have a 3rd Imp. PAN OHMSS but I cant see how a 1st is that price.

All copies were exported, so the 1st three printings are scarce. This one was in top shape. There are actually three different versions of the 1st, completionists have to have them all!🙂👍

Thanks. Wow...where to begain ? Ok i can understanding putting down a pile of cash for a first eddition , a complet set of a series , a book by you fave .As a reader/ collector i will do the same. But i cant get over the price of some of the movie tie ins 🤔🤔🙄🙄 But to quote one of my fave KZbinrs " it is what it is " lol . That Doc Savage collection had me salivating . The Carter Brown cover art...spot on...lol . They remind me of the early sci fi/fantasy covers with the ladies with the flawless looks despit the conditions and monsters. (Ditto on the quote ) . Thanks and bye . Ps maybe you should copyrite ( right ? ) that quote .lol

Hi Jules, very much enjoyed this video as ever. On a side note-do you collect Dandy and Beano annuals? I've given myself the task of trying to collect all between 1970 and present day and then looking pre 1970. Would love to see a video on these kind of books if you have them in your collection. Greetings from Roborough, Plymouth.

Hi buddy, close enough to reply, shouting out the window! Sadly, although I've had loads through my hands over the years, I've never personally collected them. I'm hoping to 'borrow' bits from other local collectors that I can showcase on the channel so I'll ask around🙂👍
