Sick of using the same old minor key for your tracks? 💁♂️
By branching out and playing with relative modes, you can unlock much more interesting and complex emotions in your music, such as the Dorian mode 😎
Very closely related to the natural minor (aeolian mode), the Dorian mode is basically the natural minor scale with a raised / sharpened 6th degree 👀
It has an interesting uplifting feel, and means that any chords you play that include that 6th degree will be different, making your IV chord major (rather than minor), your II chord minor (rather than diminished, and so usable), and your VI chord diminished (rather than major) 🤘
Here’s how it totally changes the feel of a chord progression. Many legendary songs like Boulevard Of Broken Dreams use this same technique to create a sense of uplifting in an otherwise pretty dark and sad chord progression 🥺

P.S the song playing is my remix of Moments by Humans Out Loud via my label Elevation London . Its out in streaming this Friday - go check it out 👀
