Hi, if you'll still see this; what did you mean by.. "because of her illness and Stevie Nicks"...? That quite jumped out to me. Have honestly no idea if that's a typo, or some salacious/gossipy story. Don't know (almost) anything about their lives. But the Stevie Nicks part seems to have the absurd potential of an epic gangsta rivalry (I kid.. but not entirely sure)... 🤷🏼‍♀️

Emmylou Harris is one of the "big dogs." A hugely influential artist. With Gram Parsons she was a huge part of what later become Americana. She covered, and helped bring to prominence, great songwriters like Lucinda Williams and Julie Miller. She leant her voice to so many great songs by other artists from Buck Owens to Bob Dylan. She is as tremendous.

I was introduced to her music by this TV appearance. The back story was she hated to do TV because she thought she never looked good and that TV people always gave her a hard time about Gram but the BBC were desperate to have her. She would not agree to do the show's usual format of interviews and songs but offered them a concert in the BBC theatre they could tape- they near bit her hand off! She was overwhelmed by the reaction she got from the broadcast- the reviews were amazing and her tour sold out. It got her over her fear of TV and she got this punk rocker listening to country. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fn-sn5aEZqmnd9k

The 3 of them performed this song together on Dolly's show in 1976. They later collaborated together on a few albums. The first Trio album from 1987 is great & showcases the lovely voices of these talented ladies. Lots of great songs such as "To Know Him Is To Love Him", "Telling Me Lies", "Those Memories Of You", "Wildflowers" etc. They did a 2nd album Trio II in 1999. It also has many hit songs such as "After The Goldrush", "Do I Ever Cross Your Mind", "Feels Like Home" etc.

I like to equate Emmylou's voice as being as clear as Waterford crystal! The three of them appeared on David Letterman's show in 1999 and sang Neil Young's 'After the Gold Rush". An instrument invented by Benjamin Franklin, the glass harmonica, was played, which made a haunting sound. The sound of the glass harmonica along with the beautiful tight harmonies of the Trio is magical!

This television performance (1976) was before they did their first project the initial Trio album. Which was fantastic a mostly traditional country album with traditional country instruments. This song appears on Linda Ronstadt's 1975 album Prisoner In Disguise, with EmmyLou backing Linda. Incidentally so does Linda's version of the Dolly classic, I Will Always Love You, which David Foster and Whitney Houston used, as the template for their 1992 recording of the same song. When Dolly found out they were using Linda's recording as the template she had to phone David to give him the final verse (not included in Linda's recording). Also the second Trio album, contains 5 songs that were already recorded by Linda, on her 1995 Album Feels Like Home.

All 3 are great human beings who are highly respected in the industry both for their talent and for their willingness to help out others coming up. Linda has several exes, all of whom still sing her praises. She is still close to Jerry Brown and his wife. To be in an industry known for its egos and people stepping on each other to get to the top, these 3 women all show what class and grace are. All are perfectionists when it comes to the music, but they know how to get that without putting others down.

Linda starred in "The Pirates of Penzance" alongside Kevin Kline in Joseph Papp's Shakespeare in the Park production on 11 August 1980, co-starring Patricia Routledge. Again, when the production moved to Broadway in 1981, with Estelle Parsons replacing Patricia Routledge. &, yet again, in the film adaptation in 1983, with Angela Lansbury replacing Estelle Parsons. Personally, as amazing as Linda's voice ALWAYS is, no matter what she's singing, I think she's at her best in operetta, & again in mariachi!

The documentary about Linda goes into how this group formed. I don't remember the whole story, but the gist of it is that Linda and Emmylou were friends already. They were living in L.A. Linda got back from a rehearsal or a gig or something and got a message from Emmylou that Dolly was in town and wanted to meet her. Linda said she broke every speed limit on the way to meet Dolly. It's funny to hear them speak in such glowing terms about each other as you hear in the documentary. Make no mistake, though: the perfection you hear in this song and the rest of what they put together is due to Linda Ronstadt demanding that perfection and riding herd on the other two, particularly Dolly, to make perfect happen.

This brought me to tears.... i had Linda Ronstadt's albums....all of them when i was a teen during the 70's, and i can vividly see and hear in my mind my bedroom as i listened to this and all Linda, Emmylou and Dolly songs. What a beautiful memory ... this was one of my favorites. And Emmylou is totally one of the "big dogs"

Regarding Linda Ronstadt's versatility, during the 1980s, she starred in a Broadway production of Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance," and showed off the operatic qualities of her voice. You might want to try listening to a recording from that production.

EmmyLou is one of the greats and belongs up there beside Dolly & Linda. "Beneath Still Waters" , "Hickory Winds" and "Tulsa Queen" are just a few of my favorite EmmyLou songs. For something a bit more upbeat you might sample "You Never Can Tell (C'est la Vie)" or "Two More Bottles of Wine". She has an extensive catalog of great songs and duets with some of greatest in the business. Great reaction guys, as usual.

The entire first "Trio" album is brilliant. Every track. (I love "Telling Me Lies" and "Farther Along" and "Making Plans.") The entire album that Linda Ronstadt did with Aaron Neville is also brilliant. (I love "Adios" and "I Don't Much" and "All My Life." Again, every track is wonderful. "Cry Like A Rainstorm.")

Linda is my favorite female singer as she can do any genre; Dolly is just an amazing human being. She created a reading program years ago for any parent to receive books for their children from birth to 5 years of age. She now just announced that any employee at Dollywood will have all their college expenses including room, board, and books paid for if they decide to go to college. That’s any of the 11,000 employees! I’d like to see the ultra wealthy billionaires step up and do something similar rather than shooting themselves off into space.

Great song and reaction. As I am sure you noticed Emmylou didn't take a verse and while she is a wonderful solo artist her true forte is as a harmony vocalist and IMO the best ever. I suspect that she has sung harmony on over 1000? songs.

They’re all so talented and if you watch the video of Hello Stranger from Austin City Limits, you’ll get to see some bluegrass instruments y’all have been been enjoying in other songs, along with the most gorgeous harmonies. Linda decided she wanted to do American standards (from the 1920's to 1950's). Her music advisors thought she was crazy, but she went ahead. Here is "When You Wish upon a Star": kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoLWkpljqJhsa68. Incredible range! She took voice lessons for this phase of her career because she didn't think her voice was good enough for these songs.

Y'all have to listen to their version of Mr. Sandman, it is so amazing. You also have to watch Linda Ronstadt's documentary, it explains how the three of them got together and it is so good. Linda heard Emmylou and got super jealous because she loved Emmylou's voice. But then Linda decided, she could be jealous of Emmylou and never appreciate the music, or befriend her and learn from her. Clearly you know what she decided to do haha and thank God she did!

I was about 10 or 11 when I heard this on TV. We watched Dolly's show every week and this one was by far my favorite. I remember wishing that the three of them would just sing song after song together and never stop. It was magical. Dolly has said that this was a song her mother would sing when she was a little girl.
