It is easier to get a gliding license because you don't have to learn somethings in gliding that you must in powered flying.. Flying itself is not that difficult at all... it just takes instruction and practice. Glider pilots end up having better flying skills because there is more emphasis on actual flying. You may be surprised to know that many military pilots, astronauts started off gliding. Neil Armstrong started as a glider pilot and then went back to gliding after his astronaut career. Gliding is also costs a lot less. When you get your glider pilot license, you can progress to whatever level you like. Just basic gliding near the airport.. or you can become a cross country pilot and go out exploring well beyond the airport... up to many hundred miles.
