Incredible gas turbine Rover-BRM back at Le Mans

Bonkers gas turbine-powered racing car revisits Le Mans more than 40 years after it was campaigned by Graham Hill and Jackie Stewart. Here it is being fired up.
The Rover-BRM was the result of a collaboration between Rover and British Racing Motors during the 1960s, and became the first gas turbine-powered car to race at Le Mans. It ran at La Sarthe in 1963 and 1964 in an experimental class of its own, but it wasn't until the 1965 race that was given a race number and allowed to compete against other cars.
The car was recently recommissioned by a team at the Heritage Motor Museum, Gaydon and carried out parade laps at the 2014 Le Mans Classic, as well as winning the Prix d'Excellence at the event's concours.

In '65, only 14 cars finished - and this was one of them, coming home in 8th place.

I was taken around Donnington in that car when i was 6 years old.

Years ago James my uncle was the head of the museum at Donnington, i'll never fotrget the ride in the gas turbine BRM, i was Captain Scarlet in my mind.

I'm sure they were smarter then to think a turbine could ever make sense on road vehicles. BMW had plenty experience with Jet engines, after all, they were the first to have a production line for them , building them in numbers... along with Jumo

Yea! constant scream but still adjustable years and throttle, maybe almost like how they do electric cars

Back to the age where no one gave a hoot about fuel consumption... gas turbines are the least efficient engines ever.
