There is virtually no driving test in India. They just test your basic control skills. Of course it varies by place but this is the general thing. You're left on your own . If you survive driving 40000km without accident in India (except minor fender bender), then you can survive anywhere :)

So I gonna tell u how this works. Suppose you're riding a bike and u have to make a right turn. Slow down your vehicle. First see left :- If there is a vehicle from left coming towards you. Assume its speed, If its speed is fast than yours than let it go first and vice-versa. If there is no vehicle on the left then u are prepared to go with your same speed and make turn but wait maybe an another vehicle coming from right and if u didn't saw it then sure u will get hit. So first left then right, if both clear u can go. Now the question is who will slow down his vehicle speed. So the priority goes this way Bike>car>suv>truck Low class have the highest priority to go first. But sometimes u have to take priorities and speed into account. While making turn don't forget to blow a horn as this will help catch the other driver attention. And yes, the longer you press the horn it indicates that you're in a hurry and they will easily let u go. If anyhow you caught with an accident then consider that day is your unlucky day.

Dad learned to drive after coming to US and when he went back to India he took a driving class. The instructor gave him the 2 rules of the road: 1) don’t hit anyone, 2) don’t get hit. His favorite thing to say during driving practice was “paravaayillai (it’s ok) sir, adjust and go, adjust and go”. It’s my life philosophy now. If problems crop up in life, I adjust and go! After I told him about that, he told me that my dream sounded a lot like how traffic is in India and it just blew my mind at how chaotic it is XD
@kikenaround2 жыл бұрын
You know, many Indians don’t even find it chaotic because they’re so used to it. The way that the traffic works just means that they train their mind to think about all possible situations when turning, driving straight, stopping or anything else. It really enhances cognitive skills. Also, some consider this to be a free-flow of traffic, rather than chaotic.

I just got back from India and the driving is insane. But what is true is that very few of the cars had dents in them. Some of the public transportation showed signs of small collisions, but private vehicles were surprisingly free of dents. Yet, that does not mean I would prefer their style of driving. One must be aggressive and force his way into traffic. And it is very slow traveling in the cities I was in (Bengaluru, Bellary, Yadgir, Hyderabad). Scooters and motorcycles are, by far, the most numerous vehicles and it is common to see them loaded with several people. We passed a motorcycle with mom on the very back, then two kids, then dad as driver, and one more kid in front of him. Most have small engines and do not go very fast. The only their "system" works at all is that everyone understands is a "obeys" is. Here, in the USA, we rarely use our horns and when we do, it is generally to inform another drive we do not like what they just did. But, in India, it is just a way to signal someone that you are coming around them and to make way. And they do. So it is not unusual for a car to honk and begin to pass a cycle or even another car even though another vehicle is coming from the opposite direction. The vehicle being passed just moves over, and the oncoming vehicle moves over and maybe even slows a bit in order to make the pass possible. However, it may still result in some very close calls. It seems they operate on the "A miss is as good as a mile" principle - even the pedestrians. I was also told that the cheapness of human life coupled with the Hindu veneration of cattle makes it a much more serious offense to hit a cow than hit a person.

If You want to drive on Indian Roads ... Don't take anything for granted ; that is the 1st thing ...Because people can come to you driving from wrong side also ...All ur 5 senses must work in Indian Traffic ... Not only that ... Your 6th sense should also work ... Then only you will be able to drive in Indian Roads Traffic & then only you can survive ...😊😊

There are no predestrian side walks. Just roads full of corner shops, markets a lot of people plus cars. How is it possible to share one thing. Also i only hear a horn blow about twice a week in England and in india it is like 100 every 10 seconds.

Never witnessed how people in other countries drive, but our roads are full of morons. Especially cab, auto, and public transport drivers make the journey miserable for rest of us. Many are impatient, don't maintain adequate distance, don't follow line discipline, and keep honking for no reason. They don't even realize what they are doing is a mistake, because unlike you guys, we can get driving license without even being tested; I'm not exaggerating, and this is an open secret. It should've been corrected, but unfortunately, we are fed up with cast based reservation, thereby putting ineptitude people at decision-making positions rather than a fully qualified personnel. No wonder why educated people are migrating to developed nations.

I'm a learner myself in India and was searching how to drive in a crossway in India and that's how I got here. Sharing my experience three days ago, I was driving my car in a crossway with a speed of 10 km/h. We have all sorts of vehicles coming from all directions especially in crossways without following rules which I hate the most. I was bout to take a turn, looked left to make sure no vehicle was approaching me from behind (left) and the moment I turned my head at front a damn scooter was right straight next to my car with a lady (age probably 60) sitting behind him. It was his fault to move so fast and my car hit him. He just fell down and the lady landed on her legs behind her head. He rushed to me and started punching my side glass asking me to get it down. I didn't and after lots of efforts he let me go. They don't even accept their mistakes and blame on people much younger than them. I do not feel sorry for him but for the innocent lady I hurt by accident because of his fault. And moral of the story keep your side glasses up if you hit somebody in India. They gonna come to punch your face!

The average Indian's driving 'skill' is akin to that of a zombie. Just mindlessly point their vehicle in the general direction of intended travel and then start drifting. The slower, the more socially acceptable you are regardless of how careless. The faster you go the more of an anti-social' you are perceived to be regardless of however disciplined your driving maybe.
