The reason why its animation is so grand is because its directed by Chainsaw Man's action animation director and director of the majority of le Black Clover series.

That makes a lot of sense, It literally reminds me of Danmachi right off the bat. Will does have the same vibe as Bell Cranel (going to the dungeon, catching up with the girl that they admired). However, I think their main difference is that Will is already goated in the very first episode but he only can't use magic. On the other hand, Bell was introduced as weak, and it's about his progression of getting stronger

@@Art_FlameBoltz-PGR Yeah, Will is definitely start off stronger, the story isn't about his progression of getting stronger(of course he's also getting stronger over time, but it was not the main point), but about how he makes people accept the fact that "Sword" possess as much worth as the "Wand" is, Will is actually a natural born "prodigy" on his own way, it just he doesn't fit in the standard definition of "mage", like Workner said; "He's an outlier"

The interesting thing about the animation on Will is that this is how Fujino Omori describes how Bell moves when he's writing Danmachi. The problem with Danmachi is JC Staff just doesn't provide that level of animation quality, so while Bell SHOULD move like Will, he just doesn't. Danmachi's novel series is super popular in Japan, so this feels like it's a passion project to attract an animator/director as big as Yoshihara (from Chainsaw Man). If Danmachi cannot be as well animated as it rightfully should be, seemingly Yoshihara is gonna make sure Wistoria at least is. It's great to see Omori get an anime win, and one with a normal name this time. 😆

@tylert5323 The Freya and Loki Familia members are shown to be so powerful they can kill entire 10,000 member armies solo easily and yet JC Staff barely animates them seeming strong at all. In Season 2 of Danmachi, during the Rakia arc Gareth was supposed to jump down off the city walls, singlehandedly engage the charging calvary of Ares' forces, and start tossing them high into the air with each swing of his axe, horses and all. Think the opening of Lord of the Rings with Sauron destroying the army with his mace. Yet... In the anime all they do is show him hit the ground with his axe and cause a small quake. So yeah, lacking oomf is definitely right. The fights in the novels are these grand battles epic in scale involving basically demigods... The anime is... Something. Wistoria seems to actually properly adapt the fights written by Omori, and I am very here for it.

I LOOOOVED this episode. I was practucally traumatized after witnessing animation so crisp and gorgeous. I only had the bare premise going in, but before 2 minutes in, I knew that I had found something to love. By the end of the episode, I'd realized that I hadn't found an anime, I'd found an experience.

I don't want to spoil it for you, but that's not quite true, yes he had superior physical ability, but he didn't trade his magical power for it, all i can say is that he still can be considered as a "mage", an irregular one. The hint of his power is right there in the title.

They showed in flashbacks that he was getting bullied before so I'm assuming it's not the first time he's tried to get him to drop out. It's just that now that he's in his (I'm assuming) senior year, the credits situation is a lot more dire where missing a few could mean him being expelled on the spot.

I really hope the rest of the season holds up to the bar that E1 set, because if it does, with how well the various fantasy tropes are blended and with how beautifully this episode was animated, it can give OnK a run for its money for anime of the season (not saying it will, because I know how this season of Onk is going to play out and Doga Kobo has already proven itself with OnK). When it comes to stuff like this, it matters greatly how you reach a particular end point, and not just the end point itself. Like Arya killing the Night King by itself isn't a bad thing, but how they got to that point in the show was bad. Dragonball Super anime and manga are a good example of this. Toriyama gave the beginning, end, and some important points in each arc. Then Funimation and Toyotaro were given the ability to connect the dots with whatever they wanted.

Lee, the reason why animation looks so crisp is the director/ animator of this episode Tatsuya Yoshihara who did major black clover fights (even the movie), jjk ep 19 (todo, yuji vs hanami) and chainsaw man especially that leach devil fight..... One of the best fighting animators in the industry has returned after long time for a new series, that's also one of the reason for hype around this series besides this is being Fujino Ōmori's (danmachi author) work... Hope they'll keep this quality throughout the series unlike ninja kamui 🙏🥹

Nope. Classroom of the elite is done by Lerche. The reason Wistoria looks good is bcoz its a passion project and has animators from Black clover while the main director being the guy who directed Black clover and the action director of Chainsaw Man. The manga is the same mangaka as Danmachi. While Danmachi does have a good fan following it's anime is a bit lack luster. So the director of Black clover took upon himself that Atleast one of the mangas should get the due quality it deserves.

Don't forget that they mentioned that Will makes theories on magic, so he might actually know more about magic than everyone in that class including the teacher, but just can't use it. If I was the mc I would become a villiain because if you keep using me to demonstrate magic knowing that I can't use magic just to humiliate me my goal won't be to pass in the academy, it would be to get strong enough to unalive you, the others that look down on me, and the ones that allowed you to keep doing that. Also, I hate characters that be making fun of people for taking out enemies when they not only don't fight alone, but most likely never really fight.

Nah, Sion can't damage Evil Sentinel because he's not strong enough, the monster is a level ahead of him "at this point" (obviously he's getting better over time), it's not that magic isn't effective against it or flame isn't effective either, it doesn't matter even if he can use another element or he were to conjure a more powerful spell, he simply isn't strong enough, i think Will also pointed this out in this episode
