So much history and knowledge lost. It is so hard to imagine the sweat and toil it took to build those terraces and the water management system. I so enjoy your property videos Nick because of the glimpses into that history. Well done. Junco 47 I can give you a small picture in time. I was there, early 60s70s I had 2 Uncles that were Tractor Owners. They would plow the fields , gather loads of lumber , clean the mountains of ferns and shrubs, selling them to everyone that had these small farms. Everyone had animals, Cows for milk, sheep for cheese ,pigs for everything . Everyone grew Corn a staple for animal feed, potatoes everywhere then everything else.. Everyone helped everyone. When it was time to harvest potatoes everyone helped out and the owner would bring baskets of food and wine, it was a party. When it was someone else's turn everyone would help and it would be their turn to bring the baskets of food and wine. Tons of children, every family has 3-4 children or more. I had another uncle who was a MASON always busy building or fixing stone walls and whatever was needed. The water for irrigation was alloted by memory , nothing written down , everyone that had crops had their day and time. September came and it was time to pic the grapes. Most families would make enough to have 2-3 liters per day, no pepsi ,coke or other soft drink , that was something you had at a bar maybe on the weekend or at a wedding. TV was 2 channels, Westerns were the Classics of the day . You would go to the local store usually the owner lived upstairs and you watched a Western while they sold you a beer or softdrink. Midnight, TV broadcast stopped . No cable TV 24/7. Animals played a big part , as they were to costly to maintain and nobody wanted to work with them , everything else disappeared.. Animals gave work to my Uncles getting their bedding, ferns shrubs etc. Those ferns and shrubs where used as bedding the eventually removed to be used as fertilizer in the fields. NO ANIMALS, you don't need corn anymore, the mountains aren't cleaned anymore and everything falls apart. My Aunt had a buther shop, with MAD COW DISEASE from BRITAIN , the regulations were to much , vaccinations, veterinary bills , registration of every animal etc etc. SO WHAT DO YOU DO ?? My Uncles came to America out of necessity, many others to Switzerland, Brazil, Argentina, etc.. The result is what you see Properties that are SKELETONS of the past.. You'll never see it again , Sunday was dress your best for Church , more than anything to meet your sweetheart. Where i met my wife married 40+ years, no regrets... . . THAT WAS LIVING !!!!! 🍷

Wow wow wow what a beautiful bit of land and for sale for a song. Yes it needs a lot of work but the place is there for someone who wants to work the land as it’s not holiday home it’s a love for that way of life although it would be somewhat easier than the last person had it. Nick these properties you show us most certainly have a charm and a story to tell anyone who has the opportunity to listen the land, buildings and of course those old trees etc. Thank you again Nick for showing us another delightful property.

In our younger days, we would have loved to take on a "project" like this place as we would have loved the seclusion and the challenge! As a farm boy/carpenter, it would have been right up my alley. Three or four goats will go a long way in cleaning up the landscape--and make some of your own cheese from the fruits of their labor. 🙂

You cannot build ANYTHING on RURAL LAND. If there is a destroyed house on the property you may be able to rebuild it AS IS , no addition or DIFFRENT materials... Portugal does not play around .. You play by their rules or you don't play at all.. And now in 2023 you must follow strict rules by installing Solar and Eco friendly energy saving systems .. I know someone that did a simple rehab on a 100+ year old house and it took him 2+ YEARS, Still waiting for the official hookup to EDP. MOODYS is now predicting a SHARP decline in PORTUGAL HOUSING 2023. 🍷

deserted There is more life in that forest than you can see. It's full of life, food, water and so much more. Try looking harder. Most animals roam around after dark and sleep in the day and the reason you think it's deserted.

The vast majority of all our ancestors lived in considerably more privation. So yes, not only possible but actually far more hospitable to the average human than so-called civilization is these days.

It’s a ruin. It could be a great project for someone with time and money, but it is not a possibility for most of us. Lovely property though.

So hilly and craggy. They’re completely out of breath. Nature is always beautiful in the raw state. But for me an impossible property to live on.
