On May 2, 2024, we documented two tornadoes at relatively close range in northwest Texas. The first was a beautiful, shape-shifting tornado near Anson that gave us a stunning ropeout and vortex breakdown. After this tornado, the supercell produced an even stronger and longer-lasting tornado that became quite intense as it moved toward Hawley. This tornado was rated a high-end EF3 and destroyed numerous homes; it was quite reminiscent of the 1997 Jarrell, TX, F5 tornado, which for a time was very narrow but produced chaotic, intense motion and devastation at the surface.
