We lived in Okinawa when my parents bought me one in 1977. The ones we got were removed from pachinko parlors, reconditioned, and sold. All the machines there have a glass front like the one you have. The machine is in the attic above my mom's garage. Besides reviving old mowers, now Taryl has me wanting to go pull that machine out of the attic and dig into it. Love what you did with the lights and gorgeous woodwork! If I recall correctly, mine only has two weak incandescent lights. The JAL on the plane in the middle of the rapid loader is Japan Air Lines.😊

Well done with the restorations. Most people have no idea what Pachinko is. I lived in Japan from 1972 to 1973 which was my junior year in high school. I sat in a few parlors. I found a 1974 vintage Nishijin two years ago at a local place called the Scrap Exchange. You bet I bought it. It needs cleaning, but I have her working. I just found another a few days ago and plan to get it also. My wife thinks I'm crazy for getting it. When I make these kinds of purchases I tell her it's an "auto part". This excuse has worked well for some time.

Whoa! I got my first pachinko machine from my uncle almost 40 years ago. That one is long gone but I have two that need restoration. This post has me pumped up to get the better one up and running asap. Thank you! I was actually trying to find your video on adjusting governor on a Kohler engine and got sidetracked by this video

This brings back so many memories. My parents have a Pachinko machine that my Dad got out of an old bar. Many a rainy day I'd be in their basement playing it as a kid. This and an old pinball machine kept me busy for hours 😁

Nice work!……I have to say, that’s pretty cool that you put that vintage age machine in a nice cabinet and the LEDS, the laminate, really make it a work of art. Like you, back in mid 70s, my dad got me a plastic little machine that I enjoyed. ….thanks for the contact information and tips on redoing these things. I might buy a rough one and follow your example. Thanks man!

I had a pachinko game when I was a kid, my dad threw it away when I went in the Army. I got 2 more a few years ago at a local auction, I really enjoy playing with them. It is quite relaxing actually. Great Job with your restorations, you have inspired me to jazz mine up with lights!

Your greatest video iMHO. I was with a friend in Tokyo and we went into one of those Pachinko Parlors. 3 floors! Our machine had a small CRT screen in the centre (80's?) and was auto feed. We managed to get the jackpot opening set just right and had 7's going both ways on the screen. Lights were flashing, people looking, bells etc ringing and people were taking their balls and dumping them into our machine! 5 min of fame? At 10 or 10:30 PM, the lights flashed and every winner cashed in. We received a tiny token, I think it was a 1$ us gold coin with a hole in it. A kind lady directed us to the rear of the building where there was a small wooden building with a window covered in brown paper and a slot underneath. We put our token in the slot and a considerable amount of U$ came back. To circumvent gambling laws, 'someone' was purchasing the tokens people won. Memorable. Thanks. A fantastic resto job Taryl, many hundreds of hours of research, improvisation, thought and labour. Where's the cat?

Nice work! I still have the machine my parents got me for Christmas from the Sears Wish Book in 1979 and I picked up another machine a few years ago from a thrift store. They've just been stored for quite a while and I've been planning to set them up and have been looking at different things about Pachinko online, which led me to your video. I really like what you did with the lighting and the cabinets. You gave me some good ideas that I think I'll put to use. Back in the day I had a typical household transformer from some no-longer-used electrical device and had the built in lights running with power from that and also wired in some standard Christmas lights to add more lighting. It was a crude version of what you've done with the LED lights. The LEDs give a much more dramatic effect, but I clearly had the same thought you did back then... not enough lights! Thanks for sharing your tips and showing us what you created.

VERY COOL! I bought my one and only *(rapid loader) Pachinko machine in Sasebo, Japan in 1971. And yes, they all had GLASS fronts. Mine has NO lights, and the ash tray has a flap like panel at the bottom that is spring loaded with a little extension. Pull down on it and it dumps on the floor (or whatever happens to be in the way)... ha! No smokers in my house. Completely stock machine.

Working as a handyman, I got into many houses and have been given many things that people no longer want. One such item was a perfectly good working pachinko machine. All the writing on it is in Japanese, and all the balls are engraved with a Japanese marking.
