It always amazes me that so many sellers (and posters on Facebook) don't remove the books from their filthy plastic sleeves before taking a picture of them. New bags are cheap enough, just bin those cloudy ones. Nice video, Jules.

I see the Bachman Books anthology is nearly always advertised as featuring the rare novel 'RAGE'. I suppose not surprising that the individual paperback would command big money.
@raresaturn Жыл бұрын
That's because King withdrew it from publication, the newer printings of Bachman Books do not include Rage at King's request

Hi Jules, great video and knowledge as usual. Maybe if the Agatha Christie books have seen a recent surge in price it could be due to the Lucy Worsley BBC Agatha Christie book and TV documentary in December. But that 1978 Fontana of the book that shall not be named for over £250 is absolutely crazy. Who knows why that book but the bad title in the UK was used until 1986 astonishingly, until it was renamed And Then There Were None.
@JulesBurt Жыл бұрын
For sure the Lucy Worsley influence cannot be overlooked. Not sure if that copy of ten little was just a blip but you regularly see them sell for upwards of £70 a copy👍

Never saw those Bond hardcovers. Very cool . I too am trying to understand some of the prices and the condition of some of the books . I am alway tempted to go and find my " movie tie ins " . The Ann Rice lot is a catch . And the MM is worth . Thanks . Bye.

Thanks Sylvan, that Bond set is lovely. Yep, the Anne Rice I feel was a decent buy👍

Great video, Jules, and some jaw-dropping prices, too! I almost cry every time I see the US edition of Rage sell for high amounts as I sold mine for £20 at a UK paperback show many years ago after acquiring the UK NEL edition for £1.50 from Fantasy Centre. Oh well... As others have said, that Stephen King signature looks rather dodgy, particularly after I compared it to my UK hardback copy of Christine which King inscribed to me - and in front of me too! - at the UK launch in Forbidden Planet back in 1983. The one in your video certainly looks iffy! It's also good to know that signed copies of the Gold Medal PBO edition of Beebo Brinker are worth something, because many years ago I dashed over to a dealer's table at one of Gary Lovisi's New York paperback shows and bought a copy for $10 when Ann Bannon showed up, got her to sign it AND took a photo of myself with her whilst holding the book in my hand to prove that I was with her when she signed it. So, some you win and some you lose as regards what I've let go and what I've acquired. Maybe I'll even manage to hold back the tears the next time I see a highly-priced copy of Rage!

Great memories there David. How amazing to have met Ann Bannon, I'm sure I would have done exactly the same! So cool you got to meet Stephen King as well. I hear he's a really lovely bloke and enjoys chatting with fans. We all have done regrets about what we sell on or let go. I've loads of Star Wars ones but somehow you learn to live with them🙂

The Cauldron by Zeno - it was featured on Al Murray’s ‘We have ways’ podcast and I think that’s where the interest in that on lies. Although fiction, the author fought at Arnhem, which is the subject of the book.

Jules, great video and info as usual. Amazing what some books go for, some so overvalued in poor condition, while there are still undervalued bargains out there, rare book buying and selling has to do with one major thing- knowledge. Your videos offer a lot of valuable info. Thanks.

Thanks so much Gary. You're right of course, knowledge makes the discerning collector. There are bargains out there if you're patient 👍🙂

Gosh, I'll have to look for my copy of Westworld. It's got the same cover I remember, but no idea whether it's a 1st printing or what condition it's in. That price seems nutty. The King book is actually NOT that high a price - I've seen that one go for over $2000 all on it's own and I believe there was a lot of all the Bachman books in 1st printings that went for over $3k within the last year. I keep my eye on them because I have an absolutely flawless copy of The Running Man myself which I'll be selling someday. But not yet - the prices seem to keep going up. Another fantastic video.
@JulesBurt Жыл бұрын
Excellent stuff! Yes, it seems all the Bachman books are shooting up in value. That Westworld must be an anomile but copies have been selling for about £50 or so. You're lucky owning The Running Man 🙂

@@JulesBurt I don't think there's any living English-language writer who's more a sure bet when it comes to collectability than King at this point. And you can still find some of his first or early editions, particularly the paperback ones, at yard sales and such here occasionally. My Running Man cost me 5 cents...

Nice, a genuine bargain. I've certainly had a few lucky finds over the years, the cinbof being a collector. King is certainly tops though.👍

My two takeaways from this one: first, love, these sales videos that you do, and, second, if I ever decide to collect James Bond, it’ll be those hardcovers you showed with the retro groovy-female art… I had never seen them before, and love their design. Also, whoever paid over $300 for that signed, Stephen King paperback edition of IT got scammed. There’re a lot of King forgeries out there to sucker the naive and those who don’t do their research to compare, and this is a shining example of one. Very unfortunate.
@JulesBurt Жыл бұрын
Yes, those Bond hardbacks make a great set. Tough to find in great shape though. Glad you enjoy these video, I enjoy making them👍 Thanks for the info on the King signature.

Great video Jules. You know it's a shame we live in a world where you have to hide the title of a book so you don't offend someone. And I don't think it would offend the people in question. That's the sad part. Think I'll find another vid by my friend. 👍 😊

The thing about signed books is, you never really know if the signature is authentic (unless the book is marketed from pub date as a signed, limited edition). Personally, I would never pay much for a signed copy like the ones in the video.

I agree it needs to come with some provinancr. Fake signatures seem rife on ebsy at present.
