I’ve been a crane tech for over 30 years and I can assure you most crane accidents are caused by arrogant or ignorant crane operators. They either say “oh she can handle it, I know my crane” or “this crane is rated for blah blah blah” not understanding LOAD RADIUS. The good operators will not lift or move anything without knowing weights and distances. They will NEVER exceed the load radius rating of their machine. Cranes are giant see-saws using counterweight to prevent tipping. Cranes don’t usually fail due to structural problems they tip over bc dumbasses try to lift too far away from the machine.

If it weren't for the people injured or killed, I'd find crane accidents to be hilarious to watch. Especially the ones where someone decided to cheap out on the job.

They said this crane has a “compact design” lol. An entire crawler built for the counterweights is “compact?” 😂

Why not a weight sensing out rigger pad that would allow the operator to monitor when the crane is becoming unsafe. Maybe an air over hydraulic pad with pressure monitoring.
