Even though Mr. Incredible, Frozone, and Edna Mode were already designed for The Incredibles, animators brought their designs to life using current technology to animate them for Incredibles 2. Check out the animation transformations from 2004 to 2018!

Same thought. Came into this video expecting to see some sort of significant difference and really not seeing anything major. Obviously a lot of that comes down to the fact that they're sort of bound to the animation style they used in 2004.

The tone looks warmer overall, maybe because instead of hiding in the shadows and feeling repressed, they're being themselves and starting a new beginning. I'm probably looking too much into it though.

Yes it's true, it's a common take in cinematography where the colors of the environment matches with the situation the characters are going through, so for example a sad, more depressing time needs less vibrant colors, while a happy moment is the opposite, no wonder why we often see summer as the "happiest" season because hot sunny days helps the colors to get a lot more vibrant.
@baders087

you're probably right. even in the first film, the 'glory days' scenes had a warmer lighting than the scenes set during their suburban lifestyle. a stark contrast of golden days and the mundanity of presenrt

On the whole, cheeks are rosier, fabrics more textured, backgrounds more complex, and lighting brighter. It's nice to see the improvement, but I'm so glad that the animation of the first has held up so superbly, and that the two don't look awkward when viewed in tandem. Considering the amount that animation has changed over the last 14 years, more than anything this is a compliment to the artistry of the groundbreaking animation of the first film!

Well done. It's remarkable how time changes perspective. In 2004 The Incredibles seemed flawless, and I always remembered it that way until I started seeing the old clips recently. Oh, it still holds up, sure, but I have to appreciate how clearly advanced the sequel is in comparison. It really is amazing how progress can be both subtle and significant.

I like the old one better. I get they were going for a more animated caricatured look for the second, it feels a lot more like Ratatouille and the expressions seem to be more like The Iron Giant, but what that movie and the original Incredibles had were solid characters with correct proportions that did animated things! Not animated characters that did realistic stuff. That's what made it so great. Fingers crossed it'll be as adult as the original was.

Everyone talking about colors and such, but are missing the BIGGEST differences..... Whic are in textures, particle elements, dust and debris on specific scenes, and overall fine detail in the world itself. For example, look at the ice from Frozone in the first one when he's creating a coaster-like path, then look at the SAME technique done in the second movie. If you cant see the difference, something is wrong. Lol I understand that not everyone has an eye for fine detail, but opinions are still obviously welcome. Just dont go saying the first one is done better, because it's in fact not. It's outdated. You can literally see in SOME of the facial expressions.

Other than the obvious updates in lighting, saturation and rendering, it took me a while to actually realise it, but the proportions of some characters have changed a lot. After you do realise it, it really sticks out, and you can't unsee it. The thumbnail shows it best. Mr Incredible's lower body is so much more substantial in the sequel, plus even broader shoulders than before, he seems like a miniature hulk compared to the original where he was just well built (while he wasn't out of shape). He's just so big and just doesn't have that human proportion anymore, so much that he almost seems out of place in the scenes he's in. Like he reminds my of The Thing from the Fantastic 4. Dash must've been working out between the movies too. His shoulders are broader and doesn't exactly look natural for a kid his age. In light of this, it's true to say that ElastiTHICC is thiccer than ever.

The change is subtle but drastic when you see the movie. In the first, everything looks so plastic by comparison, like toys. In the second, the new geometry and textures makes it look way more like an illustration. Seriously, freeze one any frame, and it looks like a completed, painted drawing.

I low key would've like the sequel to have come way earlier, like a 2009 or 2010 release, that way it could've kept a similar aesthetic. Idk maybe in a parallel universe that's when it happened

The colours in the second film seem alot warmer and dash and the characters models have been touched up but I didn't mind too much still a great film.

Thought I was gonna have a problem with the noticeably new animation but after watching the movie and seeing how beautiful everything was animated in terms of lighting and detail, we deserved it and they delivered. I was 6 when the first movie came out and I'm 20 now. 14 years was more than half my life. Although the animation isn't exactly the same, which I personally would've been fine with, I can say they stay retained the character design of the original if not better

I don't like how bright and colourful the second movie is. Violet and the boy she crushes on also look about 3 years younger
