This was definitely a worthy sequel to the first film! Like the first film, I absolutely adore all the "normal" family moments the characters have and the way they interact with each other. Having Elastigirl doing hero work with Bob struggling to take care of the kids was awesome. Enjoy :)

When Winston’s dad called, Gazerbeam and Fironic, they were most likely dead at that point. Syndrome lured in hero’s with false promises, only to use them as test dummies for his robots. I don’t know the exact number, but a lot of hero’s died on that island.

And thanks to the first movie, we know for a fact that Gazerbeam was one of those killed by Syndrome. While I, and likely many others, don't remember whether Fironic was among those listed as having been on the island, Gazerbeam being one of the heroes Winston's father tried to call helps establish that connection to the events of the first movie and the likely fate of Fironic. A brilliant bit of writing and continuity between two films, even 14 years apart from one another.

Hopping back on my Cinema Therapy soapbox lol they did a two-parter if anyone’s interested, one on how accurate these movies portray good parenting, and another on the portrayal of how kids develop and behave. They’re so spot on it’s actually insane. You caught some of it when you said “Teenagers don’t miss a thing” referring to Violet and when Jack-Jack was associating the raccoon with the TV bandit. Pixar’s detailing is soooo crazy good (as usual) Also: I just KNOW the animators had a blast working on Jack-Jack. So many possibilities and new powers etc. And GREAT eye seeing the family painting!!

One of my favorite things about this movie is how they show more of Lucius' relationship with the Parrs. Violet's first move when they find out about Jack Jack's powers and how overwhelmed Bob is, is to call Lucius. Bob has to run and save Helen, he calls Lucius to check on the kids. The fact that the Incredimobile was programmed with Lucius to have access to it says a ton about the trust Bob had for him even before he and Helen got married (and the fact that Lucius uses it to get the kids to safety while sacraficing himself!). I just really love their dynamic 😭❤️
@martamatute8755
@martamatute8755 22 күн бұрын
One of the things I like about this movie is watching the dynamics regarding the roles of women and men in a relationship. We can see how difficult it was for Bob to accept his wife´s success. He wanted to be the hero and the famous one to receive admiration from people. He wanted to relive his glory days as much as he did in the first movie, and having to accept it was her chance to be great was hurting his pride so much at first. Also, the fact that she did not fully trust in his capacity to take care of their children says a lot about how much she had to do to raise them without much of his help because he wasn´t really invested in raising children while he had to go out to work. Some of that was portrayed in the first movie when she told him about Dash being called to the principal´s office while Bob did not actually hear a thing; he was just distracted by his dissatisfaction with life and his own wishes. I guess that kind of thing happened a lot over the years after superheroes became illegal. But it is great to see how Bob, though reluctantly, supported her at the end to be the one outside showing the world how incredible she was, and he also learned to be a good father. That´s just amazing and shows his great growth as a character.

Yeah people are always going to have a problem with a storyline like that like I have heard of how people feel like the movie is feminist which I don’t agree with. I think the storyline however would have been super polarising decades ago but today it’s honestly very acceptable (for the most part) Bobs role in the film. It’s not exactly revolutionary but I’m glad kids have some kind of movie they can look at and see a dad just being a dad.

@@totokekedile There's nothing wrong with it, but it's definitely used by people as a "woke" label and make an excuse that it's therefore virtue signalling/grandstanding, as a way to invalidate the inherent value and quality of the movie.
@bellidrael7457
@bellidrael7457 22 күн бұрын
@@totokekedile The issue is that 'Feminist' doesn't really mean what it used to anymore. Feminist used to just mean you support equality and women's rights. These days, hearing someone is a 'Feminist' typically sets off massive red flags because now it tends to mean they are actually sexist against men, will get upset at you for ridiculous things, and will be extremely accusatory to the point that even just saying hi is sexual harassment. Usually when a movie tries to be 'Feminist', the reason it crosses over into 'woke' is because the message isn't about equality or anything like that, but is more typically that women are perfect, can do anything, should never be questioned, should never be shown to struggle, and all the while, men are assholes, full of themselves, hate women, and are actually useless. Look at Star Wars as an example, specifically with Holdo. People had legitimate questions, they wanted to know what the plan was, what she was going to do to get them out of the situation she was in. And instead of giving answers, instead of being a leader, reassuring them, and you know... leading them. She just got angry she was being questioned, yelled at people for questioning her, and of course, it was the men questioning the woman. I don't dislike this movie, and I think it at least mostly stayed away from being woke. Little comments like at the very start the kid saying 'It's not like I don't like strong girls, I'm pretty secure' was a direct jab at this belief that the only reason people dislike characters like Rey in Star Wars is because they are insecure and 'feel threatened by strong female protagonists'. Yet consider... Characters like Ripley, Sarah Connor, Hermione, Daenerys... ever seen Kill Bill? Ever heard anyone complaining about how it's woke or anything like that? No... know why? Because it was a legitimately cool character who was just a character, and was not defined by their gender. But like I said, this movie did stay away from that kind of stuff for the most part. In the first movie Bob had health issues and had to start training and exercising to get back into shape to be a Hero again, while Helen seems to just jump straight into it, but then you have to consider, the family were being Heroes for a while, so she's not coming straight out of retirement like he did. I do just hate things though like this original comment where it's like, 'Oh yeah Bob struggles with not being the important one and only reluctantly accepts letting Helen go out and be the one to be in the spotlight'. But then of course, when the topic comes up about how Helen has no faith in Bob being able to be a good dad and how she doesn't trust him and is obviously very much expecting to have to come rushing home... oh well see now we have to defend Helen's side of things because being a mother is just so hard and he just doesn't know what it's like as a MAN and so of course she wouldn't have any faith in him and bla bla bla. It's not a fair argument. It's not a discussion about equality. It's saying that he's being a dumb petty man who can't let go of his ego, and she's just being a mom who is in her right to have no faith because dumb men just don't know how hard women have it. I'm glad that it showed that he did become a competent father, he did well, especially considering he was dealing with a baby who had every super power that was specifically designed to make him a nightmare for parenting. The movie showed both sides. A woman can go and be the hero of the family. And a man can be the father at home his kids need him to be. That's equality.

Such as having disagreement on things, but still able to communicate and talk through. And it was nice how they showed that Mr incredible struggled hard dealing with raising the kids, especially since he's doing it on his own. But he still pushes through and works on improving to be able to help his kids. 19:15 I notice a lot of people consistently bring up this moment where Bob is evidently struggling to congratulate Helen on saving the train as character assassination or similar stuff. Few things here, namely two: 1 - Bob spent years wanting to return to Hero work, finally given his chance “handed to him” on a silver platter by Winston Deavor. After hiding constantly hiding his training and work from her, Bob sees the chance to not only return to hero work and give a chance for Supers to return, but to do it without lying to his family… only to have it all torn away from him as Winston offered the chance to Helen instead, who didn’t even want it at first. Not only that, but Winston (whether intentionally or not) inferred he was clumsy and inefficient, with graphs and number but still, it’s a bit harsh. 2 - If you remember The Incredibles 1, namely the beginning where Bob saved the guy who jumped and subsequently left him in constant pain for a long time, the guy that sued him. The dude SUED Mr Incredible, who kinda was the Premier Super at the time, very popular even in the face of other, more powerful Supers due to his personality and dedication. And if Mr Incredible could be sued, who else could? Completely on accident, Mr Incredible spearheaded the series of trials and hearings bringing down Supers, including a number to do with the sheer amount of collateral damage caused to buildings and others by Supers in their attempts to “save” people, one of the forerunners alongside the Suicidal Sue-er was Bob’s saving of that train after Buddy accidentally dragged Bomb Voyage’s bomb to the track. Saving a TRAIN, the very thing Helen is cheering excitedly about to him over the phone. Bob saves a train and it’s part of the foundation the Government used to make Supers illegal. Helen saves a train and it’s part of their plan to make them legal? Does that seem right to you? _That’s a Reference_
@thecocoacouch
@thecocoacouch 22 күн бұрын
I see what you’re saying but this explanation isn’t really going into depth into the context which changes a lot. Regardless of how Mr Incredible feels about being left out of only step 1 in the master plan, it’s a bit cheesy for him to struggle to say something encouraging to his wife. Totally understand his struggle to sit idle but just saying she’ll be great and struggling that much was pretty funny tbh. It felt off. Now I think people are a little dramatic if they’re saying it’s character assassination but there is no denying it was a strange choice making the guy almost verbally gag at encouraging his wife 😆😆 regardless of his prior history. Literally everything else is fine. His pain over the phone with his wife as she celebrates her victory. All of that made sense for sure.

What I like about this movie is how it continues to expand on the character arcs from the first movie, as you explained. It's nice to see the swapping of roles between Bob and Helen. Bob was always pining to be the hero and likely considered parenting "easy" since he never took part in it as much as Helen only to find that it's harder than it looks, especially when Jack-Jack begins developing his own powers. Meanwhile, Helen was always the mom who knew parenting's challenges but probably still overestimated her superhero abilities to an extent (I remember her strong feminist views at the beginning of the first film), so her experiences against Screenslaver were definitely a step up for her as well. On top of that, the kids once again found themselves having to do something when their parents were out of the picture, except in this instance, they were literally the only ones able to begin saving the day by freeing their parents from mind control. All around, everyone had moments of maturity in this film, and that's what a good sequel storyline should do with its main characters.

My theory is that Jack Jack is actually an incredibly powerful shapeshifter. He doesn't actually have multiple superpowers but he can unconsciously transform his body so that he can turn into other Supers on a cellular level.
@otter011
@otter011 20 күн бұрын
I don’t really understand what you mean. If his superpower was only to look like other superheroes, I’d understand. But then he wouldn’t be able to do the things they can do. He’s doing multiple things, though, just like e.g. Violet (protective shield and invisibility shield). I don’t think it really matters if he has the same abilities as other superheroes but I think he has multiple, independently used powers (using telekinesis, setting yourself on fire and becoming a demon monster are very different abilities)

my favourite facts about this movie are: - frozone, knowing superheroes were being mind controlled, sends the car which is a computer with no prior biases to collect the kids. This essentially removes the danger of being captured by mind controlled supers since they wouldn't be able to fool a computer in the same way they would fool a person. - Normally Void is a very nervous super, you can see this when she's first introduced and at the end, but when she's under the control of the screenslaver she's precise, quick, and can easily overpower violet tactically and puts up a way better fight against elastigirl than any other super does. - "Evelyn Deavor" sounds like "Evil Endevour" - Evelyn, unlike other villains, doesn't work against herself like syndrome did. She lets the ship captain report that supers are "forcibly taking the bridge", furthering he own plan. - Edna Mode is voiced by the director, Brad Bird - Jack-Jack's powers reflect what it's like to have a baby

The theory for the eccentric billionaire they got the house from in the second film is syndrome after he left, the idea is that he used to live there because as you'll notice it's in a Rockwall like his other underground bunker from the first film, the idea is that he built that house for him to live in and then when he decided that he wanted to start killing all the superheroes he then left the house and created his little underground layer so the house was abandoned and sold to someone else and now the Incredibles get to live it, it also explains all the other hideaways and compartments within the house I think, but it is just a theory, the other theory is that it could've belonged to one of the superheroes who was killed by syndrome so whether or not you think it was syndrome Home or belong to one of the other superheroes, like I said it's just a theory.

You could be watching movies you actually like, but instead, you're focusing all your energy against any remotely different opinion of a film you claim you don't like. As much as I loved this movie I wish it wasn’t an instant continuation and was like 4 years later. If they make another one I hope they do that. Jack Jack is like 5, Dash is in middle school, and Violet maybe actually has a boyfriend. There’s still so much more family stuff they can do but build on the kids. Maybe show kind of a passing of the torch as supers you know?

To me it shows how a person can really do a lot when they harness their own talents, in this case, Elastigirl's superpower. Sometimes we see like someone discovering their own powers they struggle and fumble and stuff but this, it shows like the refined version of them and what they can do. It's like with music when someone starts to learn a new instrument, and when someone has mastered it to the next/ultimate level, they're like virtuous with it

I only just realized this after a third re-watch Gazerbeam & Fironic were both heroes killed by Syndrome not long after they were made illegal...hence why they couldn't arrive, since heroes will help even if the law prohibits them Syndrome like Evelyn, had a dislike or really hatred towards super heroes...I find it ironic that Evelyn hates heroes, yet it was a person who hated heroes that contributed to her father's death

you should watch the Jack jack short- it just adds the details for the first movie and also explained a little bit more for this movie! Its also just really funny. and i love the details for Elastigirl and her bike- i love when people do that for characters with powers. i was also gonna mention- i guess its not expected or required, but i was gonna ask if you ever had warnings or skip bits for flashing moments with the things you watch? this movie was pretty well known for its massive epilepsy/seizures during the fight with screenslaver, and i thankfully remember when it happens to just come down in the comments for awhile.
