I used to be in a band with three guitarists. It gave us a unique sound for melody and harmony given we could cover more ground on the guitar neck between us. I played a les paul through a Marshall adding texture and lead and the other two played acoustic guitars. At rehersal one night we spontaneously at the end of a song played three random(ish) chords in key on three separate sections of the neck and were surprised by how good it sounded. Joking around we figured it'd be funny/interesting to end songs with the same concept live. Each of us claiming a different part of the neck at some point during the song using gestures/signals and playing the most random, unusual notes we could. Sometimes in key, sometimes deliberately one or two frets off key. In the weirdest, most awkward positions we could get our hands into. Inevitably we either landed an incredible, rich, full sounding chord or absolute, derailed chaos. It either got a huge laugh from everyone in the room, or a huge round of applause! Either way we always had great fun with it. 😄😄

@@christiantolliver6331 Unfortunately not, the band lasted a year or two if memory serves and was a challenge in almost every aspect excluding the music. We had a very spinal tap fight in a car park once over miss-communication of a P.A system for example. The singer assured us it was all taken care of. It turned out what he meant by that was, he was gunna ask our drummer if we could use his after turning up way after our best efforts at a chaotic, disorganised and already irritable sound check. Leaving us all very confused and out of the loop for a few hours. Which resulted in our understandably pissed off drummer having no choice but to drive home and fetch his so we could do the gig. (We were already getting close to the starting time. Our singer/guitarist often turned up at the last possible moment before a gig, leaving the rest of us to muck in for sound check and set ups etc. Wounds were pre-salty to be polite about it.). Police actually walked over to check if we were OK after hearing raised voices, I was stuck in the middle doing my best to calm things down. The police walked away laughing ultimately and in the end we somehow managed to play a good gig, although tensions were incredibly high. I recall kicking my amp out of sheer frustration at one point just because it was breaking in and out, which is very, very uncharacteristic of me honestly. There's the odd, random recording floating around I think. Given that story alone, you can probably imagine why there wasn't much done, especially professionally. 😂😅😎✌🙃

Ihave managed to play the holdsworth chord after a minute of literal stretching but i can't even dream of using it in a progression. Even with simplest chords like Am. It took literal minutes to position my fingers.

It’s not really an “odd” chord, because it’s pretty well known, but I really like the minor major 7’s. Also, the Minor 6 Add 9

The craziest one that sticks out to me is a simple G minor chord from "Equinox" by Toru Takemitsu. It's in EbADGBbe tuning. The fingering requires you to press the low G with your thumb and use your pinky to play high D (10th fret) to A to Bb all on the first string.

The hardest guitar chord I've ever played is Amaj7/B at the 7th fret position which is 1st string 4th fret, 2nd string 5th fret, 3rd string 6th fret, 4th string 7th fret and the 6th string 7th fret using your thumb.

I play the synthesizer, but not the guitar. I hardly ever play chords with my left hand, except for two note ones, especially octaves and fifths. I think this allows me to focus on the melodies, but I really never know what I am doing but I like and am surprised by the results.

wow, the Lydian (1st one) tune was quite unique and prog. i can’t remember hearing anything like this before, it would be rad to hear something of this nature fleshed out to a full composition. obviously it’s not the scale that gives this vibe to the tune, clearly it’s your structural and rhythmic approach. That thumb under notion is a revelation! Just played with the idea for a moment and found that it can be used to make a barre chord out of the 4- finger G shape and the B7 shape, just for a start. Can also use it as a mute across all strings! x53231 is playable and mobile too. I'm already dependent on my thumb for many notes on the E and even A string, but I can see myself using it on all the strings now XD
