It's funny that Sansa, a girl who was taught to repeat courtesies, did not realise that Loras Tyrell was doing the exact same thing.
@lindenshepherd60853 жыл бұрын
I mean, she was obsessed with old stories of knights and ladies falling in love. When Loras came up to her in bejeweled armor, with his flowing hair and beautiful flowers, she felt like he was a fairy tale come to life. As a fairy tale knight giving her a special red rose, she as a young lady has every reason to expect he’d meant something more by singling her out in such a way.

I cannot lie, the TV show hurt me deeper than any other failed relationship in my life, BUT ... it was almost, ALMOST worth it all to witness the greatness that was the live-action incarnation of Olenna Tyrell. I know your comment is 3 years old, but I'm curious to know why you feel disappointed by the show (if you still feel that way), as I've yet to read the books. From my perspective, the early series (probably up to and including season 5) were spectacular, and it went downhill from there. Is that what you're talking about, just the last few seasons, or the series as a whole? If the latter, how come?
@NeurosenkavalierEmilSinclair Жыл бұрын
Dude, I'm also not over it. I've watched the show first, enjoyed the 6th season (because it was the first one releasing since I started to watch the show and I was hyped) although I already hated a lot of things happening there but back then, just to get totally disappointed by season 7 and my heart broken at season 8. I've listened to the audiobooks of ISOIAF after and I have to say: Season 1-5 were fantastic, both as a standalone but as well as an adaptation of the books. While our grandfathers might have seen the horrors of war, the later GoT seasons are the trauma of our generation lol

You provided a great reason why Loris has to pretend to be gravely wounded - it gives him an unassailable reason to stay on Dragonstone and fortify it against the Lannisters, while they do not suspect anything
@cameliaberghean13004 жыл бұрын
Right? Like many others, I suspect that Loras is either just lightly injured or perfectly fine, but I kept thinking about what Aurane's false report would accomplish. The Tyrells gifting Dany the seat of her family to seal an alliance is neat! (Not to mention that after how the show shat on Loras, I would be glad if he still had such a big role to play.)

@Libahunt It is strategically located, though. In view of fAegon invasion it becomes important. And "the friends in the Reach" could have tipped Loris off

Pretty sure Loras gave the red rose to Sansa because she was sitting right in front of Renly. He couldn't give it directly to Renly so this was the next best thing

I think one hint that mace isn't as stupid as he plays up is that he actually listens to Olenna. He is TOO good a charactiture of the mama's boy. Also I think you're right about the Tyrells wanting to hold onto what they have. They're the only house in westeros that isn't frikkin miserable for one reason or another. Like who *wouldn't* want to preserve that. Marjory tho seems a bit more ambitious than the rest of them.
@officialiheartleila45604 жыл бұрын
I always felt like people gave the Tyrells a pass. When they were just a cunning and brutal as everyone else. I personally loved seeing the sept blowup. Stunning Victory for Cersei. It was them or her. They gave her no respect... didn't even have the good manners to pretend. I truly enjoyed watching Cersei let Olena and Margery have their little moments. Which seem to embolden them. Ans she waited, like a patient lioness, for her chance to pounce. Now, the rains weep over their halls, and not a soul left to hear.
@cassandramcbride70074 жыл бұрын
Tyrells were brutal but they were not cruel. Unlike Lannisters. Tyrells didnt give respect because Cersei never offer them as well. Every time she could, Cersei just tried to diminush, humiliate or threat them. Cersei could just have stay as Queen regent and still have power. The main issue is that she wanted to be like Tywin and manipulate Joffrey to her will. The fact that Margaery could control Joffrey and could manipulate the people to her vantage, turn out to be a problem and going against what Cersei believed. Power is Power. Sure Tyrells are power hungry (like all Houses) but they never enjoyed any cruel act and only did things that were necessary for the safety of the house. Lannisters or Cersei manipulated each other and dealing with other houses they were cruel. Tywin allowed Ellia and her kids been brutally murder just to insure his family could have more power. Cersei enjoyed how Sansa was been mistread by joffrey. Even in the wedding, Cersei was having so much fun, by the dwarfs circus play moking Starks, Baratheons and tyrion. Plus every action that happen to Lannisters was made by the short sight of Cersei. She was the downfall of her own house, by not understand the consequences of her moves. Joffrey and Tommen death was directly by her, and Myrcella was just a chain reaction of consequence by Cersei hate for Tyrion. Blowing the Sept was not just a question of "cersei and them"... but a stupid move that only fixed a problem in short moment. Plus the amount of people that she had killed, that had nothing to do with her own mess. So no. People are not giving a pass to the Tyrells. People just understood the tyrells and understood the lannisters. And between both of them Tyrells were a better house. Sure Lannisters made such a entertaining moments in tv show, thats a fact. But they were horrible and toxic people.
@parsashojaei1352 Жыл бұрын
Actually, Cersei had no control over them, and the it was through her stupidity that Margaery died on the show, not a carefully planned scheme. Luckily for us, this will never happen in the books, or even if it does, only Margaery will fall victim to it, since Loras is in Dragonstone and Mace and Olenna far away. In the books, we also have two more important Tyrells. Willas and Garlan. I do not think they will all die in the books because it is simply unlikely, so you can take your song elsewhere. Sing them for The Lannisters maybe, because if either Danny or Aegon conquers (which one of them is doing now), your favourite house is screwed.
@SimplymeSVEN1810 ай бұрын
The Tyrells were cunning, but never cruel. Unlike most of the Lannisters who took joy out of it to boot. Do note how the Tyrells never actually harmed anyone, apart from Joffrey, and that kid needed to be put down like the rabid dog he was. So it's not like they didn't have a valid reason. They did everyone a favour with that. Blowing up the sept was no victory. That was Cersei being dumb and petty and unable to think of the longterm consequences of her actions. She pretty much shot herself in the foot there. Lost most of her armies, supplies and food in one daft move. The only reason she actually survived blowing up the equivalent of the pope, was plot armour. The smallfolk would've risen up and torn her to pieces for less. As they did earlier in the series and during the dance of dragons. No lords would've been willing to work with Cersei after that either. Nobody likes a kinslayer, or a king/queenslayer. Or a psychopath for that matter...and Cersei was all of the above. In the end Cersei had nobody left to side with her because she turned the only people willing to work with her against herself. Perhaps if she hadn't she'd have had the numbers to survive. Instead she wept and wailed like a small child begging and pleading Jaime not to let her die. Untill she got stoned to death with the bricks of her own castle. Pathetic. At least the Tyrells faced their end with dignity. Though they're unlikely to die out in the books. The Lannisters however are set-up for extinction. Tyrion can't have children, Jaime, Cersei and their kids will die. Lancel is joining the faith, Willem is dead, Martyn will marry Amerei Frey who spreads her legs for everything that moves and is unlikely to give him a child, provided the kid lives that long to marry her. And with Janei the Lannister name would go extinct. Tywin, Kevan, Tyget, Tyrek and Gerion are already dead and after that it's Freys. And if either fAegon or Dany take the throne they're likely to wipe out any remaining Lannisters anyway for simple vengeance.

Highgarden may not be as well positioned as castles like the Eyrie or Storm's End, but it's still a formidable castle. Being situated on a hill gives the defenders the high ground and the castle itself has three rings of curtainwalls surrounding it, each wall higher than the previous one. There's also a briar labyrinth between the two outer walls creating a bottleneck for invading troops. Furthermore it's always very well-provisioned and would be able to last a long time in a siege as a result. The Reach also has huge manpower, so the castle would be well-manned and supplied. I feel like it's being sold a bit short considering it's only been taken once in known history. I don't think the Redwynes and Hightowers are likely to currently oppose the Tyrells. Especially with Olenna being Mace's mother and his sister Mina Tyrell being the wife of Paxter Redwyne, the current lord Redwyne. Mace's wife is also the daughter of the current lord Hightower. The Tarlys and Rowans might proove troublesome though that can be debated considering the Tyrells are basically guaranteed to have the Hightowers, Redwynes and both houses Fossoway on their side. Garlan Tyrell in addition holds the Florent lands. The mother of Lady Bulwer is also a Tyrell and they've furthermore married into houses Beesbury and Meadows. Can't imagine the Tarlys and/or Rowans would be keen to face off against that. Lady Rowan is also a Redwyne, so it's not certain her husband would be willing to attack his wife's house. They're rather big on kin in the Reach after all.
@EPYHDA14 жыл бұрын
I think that Bailish used the Tyrells to accomplish his goals. He went to propose the marriage, worked on both short term - secure the alliance and get Harrenhall, and the longer term goals - remove Jeoffrey to ensure the chaos. Olena was the one he went to for this - he would not be blamed, because he "wasn't even in King's Landing"
