100% Brienne is the truest knight in the seven kingdoms. It's why she's always gone at the top of my list anytime someone asks the question "who would you pick as your kingsguard?"

Where I used to live in Perth Western Australia, there was a school. Every morning and afternoon when kids would show up to school there would be the school traffic wardens, always old people. Except one, she looked identical to lady Brienne, massively tall woman with short blonde hair. She would wear the traffic warden outfit which also blocks out the sun because WA has crazy heat something with a hole in the ozone layer. She looked like she was wearing the golden armour, anyways I always thought of lady Brienne when I saw her.

It still blows my mind to think about how good Jamie was at swordfighting. He was so good that even being starved and treated horribly as a prisoner AND in irons, he was able to give Brianne some trouble for a little bit.

Great vid as always IDG and very much liking this collaboration. Brienne is a great character and one of the most noble sort. She is one of the closest examples we get from GRRM in being almost all good and certainly one of the least grey characters in the narrative. I enjoy her arc , it has been interesting and has taken her around Westeros and will continue to do so. Look forward to seeing how it further develops in the remaining books , most imminently with Jaime and LSh and her quest for the Stark girls. I do expect her to be knighted , we know GRRM plays with the "true knight" concept with or without the title , a concept she is connected to and embodies fittingly quite similarly to her ancestor Dunk. But for such an honorable character i think and hope she will get that title in the books ; as she deserves the validation and recognition that comes with it.

That chapter in The Whispers (Cracklaw Point) with Ser Hyle Hunt and Nimble Dick is my favorite chapter in all of ASOIAF. The quality of the writing is unmatched. It feels like a pointless adventure of finding clues to know more about Sansa's whereabouts and it's also so so tragic, but so beautiful as well. That's what ASOIAF is all about.
@exilhamburger4802

In that chapter is also a nice little parallel to the Dunk and Egg stories! She expects to be attacked during the burial of Ser Clemens Crabb by the remaining member of the brave companioins and slays him in a dagger vs rock fight, while Dunk wins his dagger vs rock fight!

She deserves to be happy, like Jon. While Jon felt he had to take on burdens he took no joy in and would ultimately be happier north of the wall, I agree that Brienne finds a lot of satisfaction from burdens and would be the happiest as the commander of the kingsguard.

Whatever happens with Brienne, I just hope she's not made to be Jaime's booty-call after receiving her knighthood. I'll never understand why D&D chose to disparage the character like that after a historic in-universe achievement🙄.

D&D pretty much did every character dirty in one way or the other , except for maybe Tyrion and Sam ; and even out of those Tyrion was a shell of his early seasons character after surpassing the text and GRRM was marginalized. Especially without the needed source material and GRRM pushed away in the later seasons very much exposed them for not being up to the task.
@neryskkiran1820

Yea, they did a shifty (-f) job with that relationship at the end. But remember, it's not for Brienne to be embarrased or ashamed of herself because of Jaime's actions or decisions. That's all on him. I hate to see her heartbroken though. I don't think GRRM intended for that to be the outcome. With D & D, women in particular seemed to have large parts of their characters defined by some unpleasantness related to their gender or sexuality. Failure of imagination to have to rely on the cheapest tricks in the book to finish the character arcs GRRM hadn't gotten to yet.

Man…I love videos like this because they’re generally so well done, pointing out thematic connections and offering great summaries…but they also give me a moment excitement that quickly dies because we have no idea when we’ll get to learn more about these characters and their individual stories. I know that the 1st time I was reading the Brienne chapters I was rather rushing through them somewhat, missing out on much and just wanting to "get through the main story" The second time around, I just picked POV by POV all the way through, so many books open at once and so it was that Brienne's travels became so poignant and sad.

Brienne, to me, is presented as the most beautiful woman in the books, with Arya not being competition only because of her youth. Competence and a personal code are key attributes, though I suspect that Gwendoline Christie was physically the right choice to portray her as well.

Knighthood is played fast and loose by GRRM who decided only a knight can make another knight. However, DTT was never knighted, yet a was a Knight of historical renown. Ironically, his ostensible ancestor BOT is not a knight, yet by her prodigious acts of valor and chivalry should by all rights be one regardless of her sex.

I wouldn’t go so far as ruined. Aside from the later seasons of GoT which screwed up pretty much every character because they screwed up the overall story, I felt Brienne was done quite well. You’re unlikely to ever get people as uglied up as they “should” be because that’s antithetical to how current show business works, but character-wise they did well with her for seasons 1-4. And even though it’s not book canon, the fight between her and Sandor was pretty good.

Brienne does not deserve to be in the King's Guard in King's Landing. That's where Cersi would have the greatest time (with ease and joviallity) killing her at least not until the death of Cersi an Dani (Brienne deserves a better end than that). Then she would have the chance of any servant of the King/Queen.

i miss watching robert's regular features on ASOIAF... there is more hidden layers and clues in Martins work than other fantasies, and Roberts interpretations are incisive and deep and lucent. However I think I have finally reached the disappointing self admission that GRRM isnt going provide Winds or Dream of Spring. I cant delude myself further, taking all things into consideration. Martin claims to be a slow writer but that is not the case. The problem is that he is a distracted, dilatory, apathetic, equivocating, vascillating, noncommittal author who believes that corollary works to the series are just as important as the central work. He denies the fact that if he does not finish asoiaf, there will be no demand and no real importance for the tandem works. He is completely deluded as to the size of the task of finishing winds and dream, and placates his anxiety by ignoring it altogether and putting out easy to write novellas and world building/back stories that provide him a false feeling of accomplishment. unfortunately HbO leans on him to work on spinoffs, further distracting him. whenever the threads of his delusion begin to unravel he vents his anxiety by channeling it into anger at his fans and readership, and writing ever more salty letters in which he lies to them, to himself, and tries to gain sympathy with pathetic pronouncements of insincere self disappointment and false promises and assurances in the way of empty apologies... giving way to outright snide reactions to honest concerns that he does not have his priorities straight. which is the sad fact. he doesnt. He is working on like 9 different things, and winds isnt really big on that list. Hr has absolutely no concept how important the core story is compared to the things he is putting work into. Maybe he doesnt want to write it anymore...maybe the HBo series made him lose his taste for it. maybe he has veered too far off course trying to keep his story surprising from the show and fan predictions, that it is an irreconcilable nightmare. all i know is that if he made it his priority and ignored the outside discourse, he would have knocked it out 4 years ago. as it stands, i dont think he is ever going to finish and is blowing smoke up our asses while telling himself that people will love dunc and aeg and various targaryans even without a conclusion to a game of thrones. i have accepted that.
