Independence Day is one of my grandpa’s favorite movies. A couple of years ago (like 2010), I was at his house and it was on basic cable. He grabs the remote to turn up the volume and seriously asks me, “Have you ever seen this movie? Independence Day. It’s so good!” He passed at 104 years old like a few weeks ago. He was an ww2 veteran who fought in the battle for Hong Kong.

Nah, then they'd simply take the precaution of installing antivirus software before attacking. Of course, they would need a compelling reason to bother attacking. Except for a living biosphere, there isn't a single natural resource on Earth that isn't FAR more abundant elsewhere in the solar system, and not locked up at the bottom of our comparatively deep gravity well. ID4 aliens in particular, who want natural resources, just cruised right past all those other planets & asteroids & comets, where they could have found enough material & fuel to build multiple Dyson Swarms or literally a billion copies of their mothership. One has to wonder why they would even bother exterminating organisms inhabiting an insignificant little planet to begin with, when they could have simply started harvesting the rest of the solar system with total impunity.

At DEFCON 3, the Air Force must be ready to mobilize in 15 minutes. At DEFCON 2, the entire Armed Forces must be ready to go to war within 6 hours. At DEFCON 1, nuclear war is imminent or has already begun, and the entire military must be ready for immediate response.

Filming the speech scene was also weirdly synchronistic: It was shot in front of the hanger that once housed the Enola Gay, one of the bombers that dropped the atomic bombs on Japan on Aug. 6, 1945. The scene was filmed exactly 50 years later. "We will not go quietly into the night," seemed to be a reference to Dylan Thomas' classic poem "Do not go gentle into that good night". The poem was fully recited in Interstellar.

Architects of Fear was clearly an inspiration for the "threat" used to unite Earth in "Watchmen". The episode of"The Outer Limits " playing on Silk Spectre I's TV when Silk Spectre II and Nite Owl visit her at the end is Architects of Fear, as an homage.
