There was literally nothing parody about that speech in the greater context of the movie. Nor was it a non global motivational speech. Wasn't American centric at all. If Americans don't know there are other countries, why do they also spend so much time bragging about all the other countries they have beaten in various wars, and why do they spend trillions of dollars on military equipment? Do Americans think Nazis and Soviets were just rebellious Americans? Vietnam is a state? Not knowing much _about_ other countries isn't the same as not knowing that other countries exist. Most Americans don't even know that much about America. Although I'm not convinced the average person in the rest of the world is a geography expert and can give you detailed summaries of the history of any European nation and the main exports of African nations ranked by trade volume. Europeans tend to know a bit more about other European nations because they are, you know, all right beside each other and freely travel among themselves, and take up an area less than half the size of the continental US, and only know the US by the negative stereotypes they gave heard and what they have learned from watching Hollywood films. Since Hollywood makes most of the major films which are consumed worldwide.

The funny thing is that the abduction is included in the comic adaptation and that event is the one that starts the downward spiral of his life as before that he was a quite accomplished and well-regarded pilot.
