Thank you for the great and insightful video. I will be starting my first postdoc in 2 months time and I am very excited about learning more about independence and research proficiency!

Thank you Justin! Very helpful! You’re magically solving my current job-searching questions! I’m wondering if you got any advice on salary negotiation? NIH standard seems challenging for bigger cities. Cheers.

For Postdoc there unfortunately isn’t much room for a salary negotiation. NIH standard is what you will typically get, although I believe some places like Stanford pay above that.

Thank you for your advice this one was specific, most relevant for me. I just started third year of my postdoc in Univ of Cambridge and was contemplating about these things. Your video has helped me prioritize my path for now. I had one question that if I am not able to carve out a unique niche as an independent scientist, secure funding for the same, I also consider industry as a option. Please advice on how to navigate and find the industry job which overlaps most with my interests? I have been looking through LinkedIn but I don't find a lot research intensive jobs. Should I focus on startups or the bigger companies? Do I look specifically at Nature jobs, the Node or other journal adverts? Is there an intermediate step between the career transition which can make it better for me?
