Great to see so many proud Scots (with no "buts"....!) and to see so many great examples of OUR wonderful culture! Apparently, some examples of "British" culture were on display too - British nationalists welcomed the marchers with Nazi salutes, aping their thuggish brethren in George Square 2014! :) #Scottish NOT British.

Why would Scotland vote to leave the United Kingdom only to be put in the hands of the European Union? that would only make us less independent as a nation, not give us the "freedom" we are trying to gain (which is a bad idea anyway as Scotland, in my opinion, belongs in Britain. It has since 1707 and always will belong in Britain.)
@casperwallace96856 жыл бұрын
Because we have no voice in our Unionist Parliament - WM. EU doesn't work like WM does. 650 MPS wil always out vote 59 MPS. Its not a union of equals. EU member states are equal members of a union, with a veto. Scotland is, essentially, a possession, and after the UK Supreme Court ruling that the Sewell Convention has no legal effect, Westminster doesn’t require the consent of Scotland, or even need bother with consulting Scotland, in order to change the devolution settlement or anything else that affects the lives of people in Scotland. The EU cannot dictate terms in such a way, and certainly not in any areas lying outside EU treaties. It can't take us to war, or oblige us to host nukes 40 miles from our largest city. The EU don't block the referenda of their "equal partners" As an Independent country in the EU, Scotland would get 12 MEPs, a veto, a seat at the top table, and EU Presidency on a rotating basis . Who would also have a vote on any trade deal WM might wish to do with EU in future. Oh the irony!

This makes me so embarrassed of my home town - if there was another vote, Scots living in the rest of the UK should be allowed to vote. I think it is undemocratic that a foreigner living in Scotland had the right to vote on whether I remain British , when I was barred from a say !

@Morrigan Ravenchild The same was said of Malta prior to its independence in 1964, yet look how it's subsequently got on, with one Theresa May recently praising Maltese industry and endeavour. Scotland's natural resources underwrite the UK debt, so shorn of such valuable assets, England could face some challenging times ahead. Your claim about oil isn't actually correct - the 2013 White Paper produced economic projections excluding oil revenue. However, since you brought it up, Brent crude is currently valued at $75 a barrel, a three-year high

@Morrigan Ravenchild Are you referring to Malta there? If so. it only joined the EU in 2004, but perhaps the 40 years of progress prior to that were just down to luck
@jbjaguar27176 жыл бұрын
No serious economist thinks that Scotland couldn't survive financially, it's utterly absurd. If Luxembourg and Iceland manage then so can we, we have an advanced economy and abundant natural resources, we should be thriving right now. The reason we are just barely muddling along is because London sucks out our talent and condemns our economy to eternal doldrums. The reason we run a budget deficit is because of our contributions to pointless British expenses such as Trident.

Yes, the 2014 result was won on the promise of all those powers WM promised, then WM backed out of all the promises which got WM that result, so if WM can't respect the result why should we. The No vote was not an endorsement of the UK, it was a stay of execution. Like any contract if you renege on the deal it cancels the result. The 2014 result was invalidated as soon as Cameron disrespected the question and illegally introduced a 3rd option he INSISTED WOULD NOT BE an option. "Vote No for more devolution". That was a clear breach of the Edinburgh Agreement (referendum rules). Scotland’s people are Sovereign and will hold as many referendums as the people see fit too ....it is their right. Its called democracy happens every 5 years in a GE too, the will of the people can be changed by the will of the people. Great eh.

John McGowan What are you talking about? In the UK Parliament Scotland is over represented by head of population, only 7 years ago (and for 13 years before that) we had Scottish PM, Deputy, Chancellor all at once, recently we had Scottish Defense Secretaries (both Fox & Fallon), Scottish Education, Justice & Environment in Michael Gove and continue to be over represented in both high office & Parliament. When you cry about Scotland not having a voice you are lying or ignorant, some of the most powerful offices in the country are/were held by Scots very recently and now, Scotland has a higher number of MPs than it should proportionally and Scotland had the choice to leave the UK which it used its *voice* to decline. You are nothing but greivance mongers who look to stoke divisions based on nothing, Scotland has a voice here in the UK where it belongs.

1. We won't need an English Parliament when we have our own autonomous one. 2. That saying is misrepresented in many modern affairs, including the Scottish Indy movement. Not only that, it appears the UK has done to the EU what Scotland wants to do to the UK - so by that rational you're Pro Eu too, right? Surely then you can understand Scotland's dilemma, being taken out of one union against our will. 3. We won't need bailed out. England focuses on building arms, Scotland wants to focus on our citizens. Compared to England, we have massive forestry, water and renewables. We would have control of 90% of oil and gas under UK waters, and our fishing area accounts for large areas too. We will keep all our tax revenue, instead of handing it to London. Of course, we won't ask for the revenue of 50 years of oil and gas taken from Scotland's waters and squandered by England's mismanagement instead of building a national fund like Norway did with its reserves, worth trillions.

It was also a 55% - 45% last time, which could have easily been fixed. Anyone who doesn't think government wouldn't do such a thing need to open their eyes and look at how politicians work, just look at Hillary in the US where it was proven she rigged around 5 states. Either way the yes campaign is no where near dead.

There's the problem, we are our own country. The UK is a Union between us all, not just what England wants and so far that's the way it's been for decades.

The UK didn't vote to leave, England did, Scotland voted no overwhelmingly. That's not democracy. Basically what you are saying is Scotland is a part of England?

Alba gu brath! The British Empire is like the Roman Empire, dead and gone. It's time for Scotland to wake up and end the defunct era of colonialism, we will become a better nation for it, just like every country in Europe which has freed itself from its imperial overlords has become a better nation for it. Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, none of them have looked back from their independence.
