Hello, Tiffany! Thank you for sharing this in-depth break-down. What are the key differences between when you should use IRS Form 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC? For example, for services such as media production camera operator, social media strategist, etc.
@bastianaccounting2 жыл бұрын
NEC is for anyone who is self employed MISC is for everything else

@@DivineLightProductions Totally we inform in the letter the liability the IRS places on us to collect the W-9 and that will have to withhold 24% if they refuse.

Do u think I can explain this to someone at H&R Block so I can be compensated cause I was robbed so I don't have any proof of receipts and things I bought. I kept the receipts in my backpack and everything got stolen

@bastianaccounting2 жыл бұрын
This depends on what country and what the tax relationship is with the US. You will need to seek out more information on this. You can start here www.irs.gov/businesses/small-businesses-self-employed/reporting-payments-to-independent-contractors. About four paragraphs down the page IRS started to explain foreign contractors. Good Luck!

When you are contracted by someone else you are truly self-employed so it would depend on your states rules for business licenses for your industry something you can probably google or call the state and ask to get a 100% clearn answer.

Hi , this was great,the question I have been searching is what should one do if they get paid 1099 on multiple service jobs . should they create an llc and pool all that income in a bank account or just keep filling as a 1099 person ?
@bastianaccounting Жыл бұрын
If you are contracting to mutliple people then you may as well form a business an LLC would be a good option. You are required to report all income and expenses on your taxes each year on the form Schedule C regardless if you are an LLC or Sole Proprietor. The second you take money for a service or good you are a sole proprietor and should file tax accordingly does that help?

@bastianaccounting Жыл бұрын
@@robertbarrett7306 that is all personal preference. You can totally do that but remember the limited liability from your state covers the whole LLC let's say one of her clients sues they can take the whole LLC which is your business too.. I teach this here. www.bastianaccounting.com/join

I suppose you can you are self employed you would just need to look at the terminate clause in your contract if you don't have one make sure you do moving forward.

Great Video- i wished-I would have to seen this video before Since I didn’t have the knowledge about w-9, neither 1099 - on May 2019 therefore I paid more than 28,000 to the Independent Contractor; then later I mailed these forms via certification U.S. Postal Service-to the Independent Contractor however he never return these forms. What should I do next? ?
@bastianaccounting4 жыл бұрын
You still report it - try to collect the forms if not then you can check a box on filing that says they refused to provide and give as much information as you have on them. This link has more details polittelaw.com/blog/what-if-a-contractor-or-vendor-refuses-to-provide-a-w-9-for-a-1099/

Hi. I am having trouble finding out what I need to do to get my independent contractors license as a cosmetologist in Ohio. I have gone to various sites: irs, nolo , KZbin, google, etc. These “veteran” hairstylists don’t want to help or want to “help” by charging you exorbitantly for knowledge. I’m not someone just trying to get things for free. I am a contributor not a taker. All that I have found is the application online, but I want everything to be legally sound. I know to get my individual contractors license and liability insurance. With all that said, I have two questions. How can I get my independent contractors license and what are some other legal things that I need to acquire to accompany this license?
@bastianaccounting3 жыл бұрын
Your forming a business essentially so you'll want to get a business bank account, and bookkeeping software such as QuickBooks Online (I have another video no that and how to get my discount) You are a sole proprietor when you start taking cash for services then you have he option to get a DBA "doing business as" in your state (less expensive) or forming an LLC. You can always stay a sole proprietor for now get your license and new bank account and get moving
