45:16 Scott Fardy falls under that superstar bracket for me. The Leinster teams that have won European trophies always had the likes of a Rocky Elsom, Isa Nacewa, Nathan Hines, Brad Thorn or Scott Fardy to enhance the squad or raise standards

I wonder will it get to the point where they increase the 4-Try BP for away teams maybe or offer say 2pts extra for an away win? Sounds ridiculous but it's a genuine discussion when it comes to encouraging sides to play full strength and go for it.

@@tennistankRF Thanks! It feels ridiculous to say but it seems like the only other possible incentive other than money (which the ECC won't have/want to pay out). Even if say a team with more losses but more try bonuses gets into the next round over a team with more wins but played their second string constantly.

Joe's right, the French teams have always sent 2nd teams for away games in the group stages regardless of format. Great point though if they also do it in the top 14 then they can hardly make the excuse that they're saving players for top 14.

The English send far more 2nd teams into this competition than the French. But as usual British /Irish media ignore this and overly attack the one group that doesn't have a voice in your media (because they don't speak English) Attacking the French will not fix this competition which is nothing

How is he a hardman? Tugging jersies and slagging sam Cane? What has he ever done that's hard? About 4/5 seasons ago when laws were different POM could take a beating while poaching a ball on the ground like no other. That was years ago but it was hard. I wouldn't have picked him since then. He rarely gets good tackle numbers, carries little and you think he'll be missed because he runs in and tugs a few jersies 😂😂😂

rugby has to rethink its calendar. internationals one weekend, domestic league the next, champions cup the next. as soon as the urc or champions cup starts getting traction, it's off to another month long pause. complete ridiculous planning if you're trying to generate interest or superstars or take care of player welfare. champions cup is no longer fit for purpose. it should take place after the domestic league finals. finalists from top 14, prem, and urc make 2 pools with 3 teams each. all of the champions and a shot at revenge for the runners up.

Munster. Daithí. It's what the people want. It's what they listen to. Leinster? Oh, they'll march through the season like a well-oiled machine, steamrolling their way to yet another European final. The script is predictable: dominant in the group stages, clinical in the knockouts, and then-at the final hurdle-they’ll crumble once more to Toulouse. Same story, different year. But Munster? That’s a different tale altogether. Theirs is the story we savor, the one we’ll talk about long after the season ends. Romantic, unpredictable Munster. They'll stumble through the group stages, scraping their way into the knockouts by the skin of their teeth. The draw will be unkind, sending them away to a tricky Premiership side or a French heavyweight. Against all odds, they’ll muster something special. A late try, a backs-to-the-wall defensive stand-whatever it takes to crawl over the line. The price? Injuries. Always injuries. Their best players will pay the toll in blood, sweat, and strained hamstrings. Next up, another daunting away trip. Maybe to a South African fortress, or yet another hostile French stadium. And yet again, romantic Munster will dig deep, summoning a gutsy, defiant performance to topple giants. The fans? They’ll start to dream. Craig and Jack will suddenly be in Lions contention. The pundits-Joe Molloy, Ian Madigan, and the rest-will gush about the prospect of a Prendergast vs. Crowley European final. But the fairy tale will falter. The semi-final awaits: Toulouse. And this time, Munster will have nothing left to give. Their team-a patchwork of battered veterans and lads called up from the AIL just to fill the bench-will fight bravely but fall short. We’ll all say, Well done, lads. No shame in that. They gave it their all, leaving nothing behind on the pitch. Because that’s Munster. Romantic. Gutsy. The team that turns despair into drama and keeps us coming back for more. They’re not just a team-they’re the main event. Always.

Joe is way off the mark with the Stade thing. If URC sides had to deal with relegation the way top14 sides do, a lot of them would be making very similar decisions to the French sides. Leinster "disrespect" the domestic competition the whole time by playing second teams. It's simply a matter of priorities in a sport that flogs its players mercilessly for almost 12 months of the year. If you want teams to play their players, there has to be fewer games. No suit in a boardroom will go for that because that means less money in the coffers.

one key factor you (JM) dont include in your comment re some French team not sending their best to the European championship. In top 14 there is relagation. No safety or easy like in the premiership or URC. And dont complain about french teams! Best success rate in the European competition. This Joe Malloy dares to say French team dont take the competition seriously!!! Check the results man. You sound like the Irish team have been dominating the competition.

And of course you would have to specify "O'Gara's La Rochelle" as you always do, because for you like for all those self-centered one-eye Irish pundits, anything in rugby that is not directly linked to Ireland does not have the slightest interest. And if you want to be outraged about understrength teams getting spanked in away fixtures, maybe could also analyse in some detail, and share your views on, the composition of the disgraceful Ulster rabble that was so comprehensively slaughtered in Toulouse ?
