If you're someone who travels internationally Google maps is the only way to go. My wife and I have planned several trips and were able to find locations, create a list of our itinerary and use all kinds of transportation. Also, if you're getting a rental and driving around, it greatly helps because you may not be able to read the directions on the signs, but navigation will still give you the visual cues. However, Waze is looking interesting for when I'm back here at home in the US

Something that Google Maps has that no other maps apps has, is showing POIs on the map, while you are navigating. Start navigation to somewhere, then tap the search magnifying glass icon, search for a POI, like petrol stations. Then tap "Re-center". The navigation continues, while all the POIs are still visible along the way. It is convenient because you don't even need to enter the POI as a destination, once it shows up on the path, in your view, just detour to it.

I use Apple Maps because I find it explains directions better than the others. I also use it because, when there are traffic jams, it proposes real secondary routes, whereas Waze often proposes a route that is already quite full, which amounts to the same thing. Waze is useful for those who don't respect speed limits, as it lets you see the police and so on. However, in terms of navigation, I find Apple Maps less energy-consuming than Waze. What's the point of knowing that I'm exceeding the speed limit? I've got my speedometer, I'm not blind. Apart from using more battery power, each application has its advantages and disadvantages.
@vizender5 ай бұрын
I second this. Apple Maps is also rolling out precise lane indications across the world. Since it used to be the only advantage Waze had over Apple Maps to me, it got me to change to Apple Maps indefinitely for navigation. I also find Apple Maps predictions to be much more accurate than Waze, with Waze usually being real time, while Apple Maps is much more predicting (and precise). When I tried to use both to compare on a 9h trip, Apple Maps was precise at 20 minutes, while Waze estimated that I would arrive 1h30 minutes before the real arrival, due to the traffic jam at the entrance of the city during rush hour. I also don't use G Maps because I find the app way to cluttered, and when I look for some shops/restaurant, I do a quick search one Apple Maps and go on Google on internet if I want more infos.

Apple gives lane assist instructions in the UK and the diagrams of complex junctions are better, especially in London. Waze does let you have offline maps Apple and google do use crowdsourcing. Apple’s graphics are more detailed than Waze and Google Waze and to a larger extent google tell you that the route found is x minutes longer than usual due to traffic, but Apple doesn’t do that Apple Maps tells you when there’s a better route (due to less traffic) and tells you what that route is, Waze doesn’t, it just says ‘we’ve found a better route’ I find that Apple Maps won’t reroute if there’s only a small amount of time saving but the route is more complex, depending on time saved. It’s just more conservative than Waze Overall, I use both Waze and Apple Maps, they’re both brilliant, give accurate routes and are easy to use. I live in the UK

On 1:32 you said the speed camera warning is only on Waze there since it's crowd sourced. But at least here in Sweden it shows all cameras even hidden ones on google maps it also gives you plenty of warnings. Same goes for the speed limit and current speed, Google maps does show the speed limit and how fast you're going. It may take time for google to update it since some roads at least in Sweden is displayed wrong but for the majority it's correct. You can also report incidents on google maps but I haven't made one so idk how good it is. One more extra thing google maps also sometimes shows you lanes. Not sure what decides when it shows which lane to take versus when it just says keep right/left, hit and miss. But it might have something to do with road works since those places are where I've driven mostly recently.

When I had an iPhone I tested each one of these apps. Waze was too clunky, and slow. It physically slowed down the number of stops per hour I delivered. It's only good for long road trips. Apple Maps was just not reliable enough. It wouldnt pinpoint a lot of places, or was off quite a bit, or would have me turn down wrong streets to get to an address, such as going behind a building instead of out-front. It also would always display the screen even when i would just lock the device and listen to directions to save battery. Google Maps on the other hand was way quicker, I could type in an address and get navigating in a matter of seconds. It had so much more info about the world, it knew the location and address of almost anything, even in neighourhoods that didn't exist yet on the map, it was so much more reliable. I ended up being one of the fastest couriers on route because of how quick Google Maps was. It wasn't without fault here and there of course, but none of the other navigation apps even came close.

Wait, almost all of these features are available on Google Maps. It even says which lane to follow, at least in Australia, although it is wrong sometimes .

at least here in Turkey, Google also has lane assist but it only shows up when getting close to the next instruction (idk what to call it but i hope it made sense). also, Waze lacks fuel selection here.

I'm just wondering why Google hasn't added an option to add your toll passes/vignettes since Waze has this option here and it's extremely useful

I wonder if Apple Maps uses different resources for ratings in different countries, here in the States it uses Yelp, which gives much more information than TripAdvisor

i was jusing waze for the most time but by now i switched to tomtom purely due their better while on the move features. For example on the autobahn it show the nearest rest and tankstation which can be added via a simple press or voice comand as the nest stop.

Apple maps has also the feature for lane assist, speed limit and traffic lights. I absolutely love the UI of Apple maps, especially on Apple Car Play. At lest in German the Siri Speech is soo much more comfortable to hear, it so crip and natural. The only problem it has, is that it doesnt know all special locations.

In the UK, Google and Waze barely show any difference for driving in my opinion. Important to mention that because they're owned by Google they both share data. The traffic data is practically the same. Just that Waze has way more alerts going off.

The issue I have with Google maps is, if I'm using the app on just the phone itself, it will show the speed limit and how fast you're going, but if I plug it into a car to use the larger display, it will just show the speed limit and not how fast you're going.

I have an android Pixel phone, and I have tried both Google Maps and Waze. I prefer Waze, and feel it is easier to use, and more likely to alter navigation favorably as traffic conditions evolve. I think that the more drivers participate in these apps, the more smoothly we can negotiate inevitable ebb and flow of traffic!

I mainly use Apple Maps in Germany and other parts of Europe and it never failed me. I’ve noticed multiple times that Apple Maps gives better traffic jam forecasts (e. g. Apple Maps said to take the alternative route while Google Maps insisted that going through the traffic jam is quicker, it was not btw) and Apple Maps also has the more up-to-date roadworks and closed roads data in their system. This data usually comes directly from government institutions and should be available for Google Maps too, but Google either does not care or is very slow in implementing this data in their system. Apple Maps also has a much better voice (in German) and I find the routing experience in cities with a large number of different tracks better. Waze is okay imo and the best thing about it are the laser warnings (which is illegal in Germany btw) but otherwise I don’t like the UI of Waze.

Waze for driving and google maps for reviews and exploring and directions when walking and to see what a place looks like before I get there so I know what to look for
