Exactly what I was looking for! great tutorial. Very concise :) Quick question though, you say this can't be sent to print because it'll use all the inks. This means I must edit the original image with photoshop if I do want it to print as duotone?

Hello! Thanks for the tip. However, when I apply "Luminosity" as effect to the selected image ... all images on the page are affected, not only the selected one. Then, it works for JPG files, not their PSD version. Any hint on what I'm doing wrong? Thanks

Ok ... got it. The other images in the page were PSD files. This doesn't work at all with PDF saved images. Works fine with JPEG and TIFF.

For PSD files, no need to apply a "Luminosity" effect. "Normal" will do just as good.

Does this technique work for print layouts or just good for web?

It will work for print, if you're printing either process (4-color offset) or digitally. It will require all 4 inks. A true duotone consists of black and a spot color... this effect approximates that look.
