I love those videos. They should have so much more views. To me, I don’t have the income to buy all those games to check them out, nor the bandwidth to play them all, yet they all have their own tidbits of wisdom and creativity that could work for so many ttrpg. It also helps to not get too pigeon-holed into specific tropes and gameplay. I love the creativity they trigger in me. Keep those videos going. This channel is rapidly becoming one of my rpg must watch. Very appreciated.

@@wizardsling you do have a style that is straight to the point, informative, and effective, while not going into negativity, nagging, or mockery which I like. When I started to watch KZbin TTRPG creator online to learn the game, I discovered that a lot of people spent more time complaining about the game than enjoying it. Which confused me about my desire to learn. To highlight the good, and be constructive about the bad is so much better. Also, the constant approach you have to the betterment of the game while respecting the preference of each and encouraging trying new things and experimenting creatively is very in line with my own philosophies. I don’t know if this channel has been going on for long, but I suspect that if you keep at it, you will grow well. Keep up the good work. It is very appreciated.

Wow, thank you! The channel is only about three months old, but I’m hoping to grow it into something much larger. I appreciate your kind words.

ICRPG is my desert island game. If I could only have ONE game book in my collection, the master's edition would be it.

for the Battle fury die. maybe they can earn it when they roll a natural 1. that could take the sting out of the epic failure.

runehammer is one of my go to channels. His old stuff like room design, treat, threat, timer is very dnd at the time. As he branched out and started publishing more his theory and philosophy became fascinating to journey alongside. His art is striking, energy contagious and charisma 16+. recommend him to anyone in the rpg community. A total asset. I'd like to shout out Seth Skorskowsky too for engaging approaches to Call of Cthulhu, Traveler and Cyberpunk as well as hilarious skits on player types and old stories. A published author as well as Runehammer these guys know how to tell stories. Very inspiring. like the comment below, I love this series of yours. Wastelands kickstarter (Web DM?) just released their PDF, REALLY good options on encumbrance and survival mechanics for dnd 5th ed. worth a look to steal those 2 rules!!

The Spell Burn die works in ICRPG because in the Basic system there are no spell slots nor any limitation to continuously cast, which are straight up better than regular attacks because it uses the d10. Spell Burn is a way to limit spellcasters, to be less imbalanced. The Advanced version in the Master edition has "stun points" and limits spells with a pool of resources, and don't need the Spell Burn system necessarily.

Battle Fury: I'd make it like inspiration, you earn it or spend it. There's no outward sign or item attached to it. However, it only applies to melee weapon and unarmed attacks. Spell Burn: I'd make it a d6 and a failed save deals the caster's casting stat in force damage to the caster. So no, you can't just sit around all day casting cantrips non-stop every 6 seconds. Every 2 rounds in which a caster doesn't cast reduces the die by 1, so a caster who paces themselves is fine.

I love these, keep it comin! I have some thoughts on making them more viable for 5e though: Rule 1. Since BFD is for attack rolls, it will favor martial classes and just a portion of spellcasting. It might be cool if you allow the bonus to be applied to a PCs spell DC if enemies keep making saves against them. I think inspiration should (sometimes) be homeruled to allow a player to impose disadvantage on enemy saves, so this is also fitting. Rule 2. In a similar spirit, perhaps the SBD can be expanded to other magical effects, class features, and other signature abilities to more fairly distribute the mechanic across your party. Barbarian rages, fighter 2nd wind and action surge, paladin smite, rogue sneak attack or use of thieves' tools, etc. Rule 5. I like the idea to simplify most scenarios, but I see this being screwy with spell ranges and certain PC builds or encounters. Should a PC with stacked speed multipliers be able to reach an "Out of Range" target, regardless of how far they can technically go? Is it fair for a DM to rule an intelligent wizard NPC, who would know the limitations of spells, be outside the range/AoE of a PC's spell when both are abstracted? I guess these things should be addressed in session 0, when you would ideally introduce the house rule.

No Room DC? Room DC has completely changed how I make and run sessions. It has completely changed how I look at the game mechanics. If the room dc 12 they know it not super challenging, but if it’s 16, 17, or 18 you can see the panic on their faces.

you missed the most important change that decks of cards have relative to dice, that the more cards of a sertine type you draw from a deckthe less likely it is to draw more of that type. this means that a player having a streak of bad luck gets to run hot for a while and vice versa. im not shure what I think of basicly adding card counting to d&d, on the one hand knowing roughly what youre going to roll does add a lot strategy, but you would need persice rules on when the deck gets shuffeld

@@wizardsling good move! I once explained the mechanic to my players and, upon one of them making that question, I blinked for three secondy reasoning what I've just said and they found that amusing.

This is easily the WORST RPG book I own. It's so hard to follow. So hard to read. So poorly formatted. It's beyond confusing. Thanks for finding these gems, because I've tried to read this book repeatedly and it's just so poorly formatted it gives me a head ache trying to read it.
