So diabolical that 2 million Indians call Britain home and that millions more inhabit the countries of the old British Empire. The British Empire was a ticket to fortune for many Indians. Incidentally everybody goes on about Famines but ignores the fact that Indians were themselves responsible for food dispersement and it was only when the British Indian Army took control of it in 1943 that the Bengal Famine was ameliorated. Many Historians place the blame on the greediness of Gujarati merchants ... so read a bit of nuance into your indignation.

@@frankyyaggabot6222 how were Indians responsible for food disbursement when the farmers were forced to pay their harvest as taxes even before the crops were harvested? How is it the Indian's fault when the British hoarded all the food and sent it to Europe as 'extra' during the World Wars despite knowing that Bengal was suffering from famine? How is it was indians' fault then how after independence there wasn't a single famine? You say many Indians profited from Britain but that doesn't change that the entire Western civilization profited from the plunder of India. How do you think enough cash flow was generated to fuel the industrial revolution? Of course, it was fueled by money plundered from India. @@darlenedagher7235 so you’ve never heard of the massacres the British committed against Indians (across 20th and 19th century). Do you not know about the India Gate in Delhi which commemorates all the fallen Indian soldiers who were kidnapped by British forces and largely untrained and forced to fight in First World War in 1914? Do you not know about Bengal Famine (which btw never repeated after British left)? Do you not know about British trying to sow divisions between the religions in places where previously there wasn’t rivalry? Look the British needed India for their Indo-British Empire and hence didn’t commit genocides but to say it wasn’t aggressive is laughably naive. And btw India had its own rich history of math, science and health that was interrupted because of Islamist rule. The Hindu Vedic tradition inherently focuses on sciences- in American medical school books it is always pointed out that the first plastic surgeries were conducted in Ancient India and there is a whole Sanskrit surgery text written by Sushruta in 2nd century BC. Not to mention, the many mathematicians like Pingala, Virahanka, Aryabhatta all from 500BC to 1000 AD whose work is directly referenced today. And don’t even get me talking about our great philosophy schools like the atomistic Vaisheshika school or the non dual Advaita Vedanta tradition or the great Buddhist tradition which is spread all over the world. Look modern Indians don’t hate modern Englishmen and quite the contrary. But don’t warp history , there’s no need. Accept the facts and look towards a brighter future

Nostalgia by the Colonials you mean. The city is very pretty and interesting to contrast with British occupied Tamil Nadu. A disgrace that this French enclave wasn't handed over to India until 1954. The French tend to impose their culture and language on their territorities. In some places, they still haven't let go, New Caledonia and French Guyana. The British crime of partition of the subcontinent will always outway French colonial tyranny

Not really. While the British did view India as a colony and their rule was marked by violent incidents, they also established schools, colleges, a court system and designed the railways and even set up industries. Indians were also given the opportunity to pursue their studies abroad in Britain. One needs to look at the Victoria terminus, the Rajpath, National Library of India,. Even India's best University, the Indian Institute of Science was set up under British rule. The French however, did not build anything in Pondicherry like the British did.

Muslims once conquered India resulting in India being multi-religious today. Britain also conquered India once, with a "trading company" resulting in Indians today speaking English and playing cricket. Mongols and Manchus once conquered China, resulting in their total eclipse by the Han Chinese, losing their cultures and languages. Facing severe extinction threats 😂

@Steven-xf8mz Pondicherry was a small fishing village, today it became a tourist destination because of French legacy, tourism is main economy of Pondicherry. When French ruled they treated tamil and French equally which was not common before. after last tamil pandya kingdom collapsed, the tamil region was ruled by other kingdoms which never treated tamils equally. Also French didn't looted like unlike british as Pondicherry itself is a small area. These are the reasons tamils don't hate French.
@ShivamPal-mz4lh7 ай бұрын
They did, Alfonso de Albuquerque, the governor of portuguese possessions and factories in Indiaback in 1510 encouraged his men to look at India as their own country, marry the local women and start a family. We got alot of portuguese families in Goa, or atleast half blood portuguese.

@Lightscribe2257 ай бұрын
See this is why it's important to listen. She was comparing the colonialism of the French compared to the British, which as he said was a marriage of existing culture instead of enforcing the foreign culture over the locals, hence why people are slower to erase it like the rest of India. You need to listen and retain information instead of supplanting it with whatever you want.
