We Indians have another exemplary example of our Indian Army. In the 1962 Indo-Sino war, the 'C' Company of the 13th Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army, comprising 125 brave men, fought valiantly until the very end against the Chinese aggression. This battle is famously known as 'The Battle of Rezang La'. Their unwavering spirit and dedication towards their duty continue to inspire us even today. Their sacrifice will always be remembered as a testament to the courage and determination of the Indian Army.

Longewala was not a last stand. The smaller unit won convincingly and ended the major action of one front in a two front war, and in only a few days. Unfortunately this doesn't capture the attention of the world like a defeat like Thermopylae, the Alamo or Wake Island. But they deserve as much glory as the fighters of those other conflicts.

It was. Kinda. Post was far ahead in the desert and retreat from the battlefield in an open desert without any vehicles or tanks was suicidal. There were few Last stands in Indo-China war in which nearly entire units died in the starting days. After ammunition ran out, some units charged banzai charge with knives on hand into Chinese lines. They didn't want to get captured and tortured. Search about it. Battle of rezang la and sikh banzai charge

Modern Indian military is extremely underrated. It has pulled off some of the most successful combined arms operations in modern times, using Eastern bloc weaponry nonetheless, which is something Russians themselves have never managed to do. The country has training on par with NATO for most part , an extremely good NCO corp, great interservice co-ordination and a complete merit based promotion system. It's more "Western" than many European militaries, and uniquely, has experience on fighting peer-level conventional wars.

India freed East Pakistan as Bangladesh and even didn't took an inch to blooster its chicken neck or chittagong to have a free route from bay of Bengal to north east as second route in case of chinese threat.. and at western side pok was not on table and no sanctions and penalty on Pakistani ... It was like India did not asked anything other than water distribution of rivers after 1971 war and independence of Bangladesh. Like doing free charity using the lives of her soldiers and money of its citizens. Indian army won the war and Indian politicians failed its people.

Indian Army captured around 15000sqkm territory of West Pakistan during 1971war... Mostly Shakargarh front in Punjab, Turtuk in North, some territoties in southern Rajasthan.... Out this only 880sqkm Turtuk was retained by India 🇮🇳 .. and... rest of which was given back by India during 1972 Shimla Agreement... And the reason was given was "gesture of goodwill"..... Whereas these territories can be used as a bargaining chip for POK... I always wander why it wasn't done??? I guess probably for the realease of Sheikh Mujib Ur Rehman... Maybe this is the reason... The last stand, found all across military history. So true! Some other notable examples in India are : 1. The Maratha Vanguard Last Stand against the Siddi leading Biijapuri Forces. Their story has been forever immortalized by the renaming of Ghod-Khind (Horse Pass) to Pawan-Khind (Sacred Pass) where 300 of them under Bajiprabhu Deshpande threw away their lives to save the fledgling Swarajya (Self Rule). 2. The Sikh battalion's last stand against the Chinese in the 1967 Nathu La and Cho La clashes.

Wing commander bawa missed the point. True that it was the Indian air force that eventually destroyed the pakistani attack but point is that Indian air force only came into action at daybreak bcos it lacked night fighting capabalities. And thruout the night it was Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri and his 120 soldiers along with soldiers of BSF who confronted 40 tanks and some 3000 pakistani soldiers. They were given offer to withdraw by army high command but choose not to do so choosing instead to fight it out to the end. And in doing so stopped pakistanis from occupying city of jaisalmer by day by dawn. How effective would wing commander bawa have been then from driving out pakistani forces from jaisalmer?. So the defining point of this battle is the sheer bloody mindedness of 120 soldiers who choose to fight it out with 40 tanks and 3000 enemey infantry

Saw a video somewhere, attempting to answer why Canadian soldiers were so merciless, especially in world war 1, the narrator said,"Some records show, Brits would always send the army men of the colonies ahead to face the fire first, resulting in mass casualties of that of the "inferiors" first. My great grandfather served in the Indian British army, as well as the Reich in 2nd world war. Not proud of the fact that he fought for a tyrant, being a Sikh means to fight oppression and defend the poor and needy. but there was this thing called the Indian Legion, an army led by Netaji Bose in his resistance to the imperialism, They weren't successful though, had some support from the Japanese in attempt of capturing back India, but Japs were dealing with the entire Asia at that time.

They had about 10,000 Greek volunteer soldiers with them from other city-states from day one, but that didn’t affect the outcome, did it?

@@rajath275they had maybe 7000 vs as many as 2-300 thousand. The last stand of the 300 Spartans is the main point people think about though, which is why it’s as celebrated as it is, they held them back as the rest of the Greeks retreated.

Yeah, that actions of the Indian Air Force was what made the Pakistanis quit their Indian Invasion; however, the Battle was won by the Indians who held the Field during the Night's fighting. If the Indians had been over run during the night, then the Indian Air Force would have had nothing to save by the next day, but their work would have only been a prelude to the next battle, an Indian Counter Offensive which would have then been necessary. but since the Indians held their positions overnight, then it was easy for the Indian Air force to do an easy clean up, but it was the Infantry Grunts on the Ground that won the Battle of Longewala.

Thank you for shedding light on this very important piece of Indian military history. Please also look into the last stand of soldier Jaswant Singh Rawat in the 1962 Indo-China war. I think you'll find it interesting as well. More importantly, thanks for highlighting that Operation Searchlight was a program of ethnic cleansing of the Bengali Hindus of East Pakistan by the Pakistan Army and its local Islamist allies the Jamaat-e-Islaami. Sadly, this genocide gets no mention among the modern 20th century genocide when history is discussed in the West.

My Grandfather was in every battle except the kargil as he retired, he was the part of Legendary 4th Sikh Regiment (Rechristened from 36th Sikh that fought Saragarhi). Their battalion went inside th Lahore and ripped off a board which read as Barki Thana Zila Lahore, he said if there was enough time and had not the ceasefire been done they would have brought their President and Prime Minister which were present then.

Since they had limited mines, they also buried all their metal tiffins in ground, to slow the advancing tanks, as they were not sure where were real mines and where were simply dummies, with a few active mines mixed in it. Its not only fighting tanks, its 4000 infantry, and over 300 other military vehicles, using cleaver tactics from right within the enemy to instill fear. Dont forget 93000 Pakistani surrender to India

Major ( later brig)kuldeep singh Chandpuri asked for air support but at that times Indian Airforce could was not able to fight at night. Major know if his men can keep Pakistani forces engaged till morning then airforce can do their work. .so they led Anti tank mines first and then some aluminium tiffin boxes so metal detector can detect it and pak forces would think that it is mine. This was brilliant plan and same happend. Pak forces was busy in finding mines and thus they wasted 4 hours doing so . Respect and homage to Late.brigadier kuldeep singh chandpuri ji,MVC
