Summary Pakistan tax to gdp ratio is lowest in the world approx. 10% ~70% of their tax collection goes to their army. Pakistan's foreign exchange reserve are about $ 8B which is less than nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh etc which are much smaller countries. And above this a huge debt is built on pakistan because of CPEC . PM Imran khan backed by Pakistani army asked Saudi Arabia for loans but they put conditions such as helping them in their shia- sunni war with Yemen and Israel. This was not acceptable to pakistan as this would have bring the Shia sunni war to their home. Lastly they are trying to get loans of upto $10B from imf. Concerns- US fears that the loans will be used to pay back Chinas loan and fund taliban in Afghanistan. India's concerns are that the funds will be diverted to their terrorist activities in Kashmir. Imf conditions greater transparency in china's CPEC agreement and the spending of the loans Background - since 1980 pakistan has asked for imf loans 14 times and each time the conditions in Pakistan worsened and they again look for a bailout Way forward for pakistan 1.) reduce their defence spending in terrorist activities 2.) increased role of government 3.) tax on high nett worth individuals and businesses 4.) open their borders for trade with india 5.) more spending on Social activities and reduce their dependence on China

@learning freak please correct your first statement. Actually its Tax to GDP ratio. For eg. if India's tax to GDP ratio is 21%, it means that the government gets 21% of its GDP as tax contribution from the public and entities.

A nation formed on basis of Religion which was stripped of it's own glorious past and made to believe that it's the descendants of Arabs,a nation who's still searching for democracy,a nation who unnecessarily got entangled in Superpower rivalry and welcomed disaster itself. It's painful to see them like this, they were us some years before. Be it Bhagat Singh or Sikh Gurus,Lahore was their Karma Bhoomi. The Fun fact is India/Hindu/Hindustan named after Indus majority of which flow in Pakistan..

Excelent analysis and solution. Strategically it is imperative for us to see that state of Pakistan is always bogged down on domestic day to day issues. Their Army, even if it goes silent for a few years will never ever give up its links with terrorism and they will rise again and create problems for us once their economy stabilizes. It is in the interest of India to either see Pakistan disintegrate into several nation states or else ensure, Pakistan is forced to think all the time, from where the next morsel is going to come from.

1.Reduce army to 50% 2. Take control of ATOM BOMB Locations 3. Train civil servants to work neutral. 4. Remove religion from the text books. 5. Flush out all terrorists in to the sea or deserts. 6. Monitor all above activities for the next 20 years. As far as Kashmir is concerned, it will fade away automatically without any war with Pak. Above may change society at least in the next 30 years.

IMF credits are always used to pay off outrageous interest rates of previous imf loans. And the conditions imposed by the IMF on the receiving country aims to support impoverish the poor and make the Wall Street companies very wealthy. It is also not in the IMF interest that the receiving county ever will be able to pay back the loans and become independent again. This is not democratic at all. I disagree with the former Ambassador on the statement that the IMF has no transparency of the Pakistan financial situation. They have their loyalists are controlling the national bank, ministery of finance and economic.

the problem is not mismanagement, the problem is inherent to the banking system/ not only is credit created from a small amount of currency reserves, literally from thin air. it also creates interest, a by product that never grows old nor shrinks, while all other things you buy with debt does. so if the debt is created from a small amount of currency and it causes interest, where is the currency that pays for the interest of the debt will come from when you have a system that inherently has more credit than currency. we are living a big lie thru this banking system and the longer we stay in it, the bigger the collapse will be.

all painfully true facts. But unfortunately all countries have very deep and disturbing facts. If Pakistan didn’t have nukes, they would have followed suit of Iraq, Syria. Many countries would have invaded by now. Russia, India, u.s. Most military come from Punjab, so even the common people there are intertwined with the military. Those who have resisted, are subdued very quickly. Afghanistan has been a very troublesome neighbor for Pakistan also, and a big cause of problems. I live in u.s and can tell u that u.s and especially under trump, is such a cauldron of state run hypocrisy, corruption and criminality that it baffles the mind. And to see them use them use military and economic tactics to ruin other countries, and even their own people is beyond imagination. I guess the British passed on the mantle to them after ww2.

IMF is funding a country which is bankrupt and has nuclear weapons. Pakistan has lot of crazy people who put their ego over the economy and their people. It is clear and obvious that IMF want Pakistan to have nuclear weapons at any cost, otherwise why they will fund Pakistan for a long time. It is history now. Too many bail outs with Pakistan. I am sure Pakistan will sell nuclear weapons to Saudi Arabia or Iran or both or some other country to come out of this crisis. Nuclear weapon or Nuclear waste sale is inevitable for the time being, it is difficult to guess who is that buyer who is willing to pay the chunk of money that Pakistan is looking for? Money will be raised through hawala route via Dubai. What they are saying out side is Saudi wants Pakistani Soldiers for Yemen conflict is a lie. Actually Saudi and Iran has asked nuclear weapons from Pakistan. This is the truth of the discussion. India has lot more to worry about Pakistan because we don't want a bankrupt neighbor who has nuclear weapon running around crazy for money. Americans can ask Pakistan to surrender their nuclear weapon in exchange of bail out. This is a possible option for Pakistan and America. I don't think Americans will never get this kind of option or opportunity to take over the nuclear weapons from Pakistan.

Pakistani politicians must understand instead of blabbering brotherhood and becoming slaves of china , you should open trade with India, opt for the opportunity instead of your dirty stinky ego and envy . It's foolishness thinking friendship bw india and pakistan is imposible just because we have fought 4 major war and many battles.i hope you remember WW 2, where whole europe fought, after the battle they understand they have to stay together for betterment and development, so they became european union and still working as a single nation. They together made fighter jets and military equipments. Here in Asia india is going ahead with great visions and plan ans becoming a global power, pakistan is trying cross indian boarder ,. China is playing like a intel prostitute who try get land of neighbors inch by inch, srilanka behaving like keep of china playing family politics by updating nations constitution like mobile phone software update, bhutan no vdo development but happiness index development....
