India has raised "strong objection" to remarks made by the US State Department on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's arrest. A spokesperson for the State Department called for a "fair, transparent and timely" resolution of the case. In response, the Indian External Affairs Ministry summoned a top US diplomat in New Delhi and conveyed its objection. This diplomatic standoff follows similar comments from the German Foreign Office. A spokesperson in Berlin called for the upholding principles of independent judicial principles in Kejriwal's case. India responded by summoning a German diplomat based in New Delhi.
