The focus of Shahrukh's analysis of why India grew economically over last 76 years is with the government policies, Constitution, Institutions, etc. In my view, apart from other factors, it was the liberal society where free speech was embraced by the people and the focus was on education, development and prosperity rather than on religion, dogmas and superstitions. Ultimately, the government, Institutions, Constitution can only enable an environment for people to thrive. The hard work has to be done by the people themselves.

It is a myth that Mohammad Ali Jinnah wanted a country for Muslims or a Muslim country. It was absolutely clear at that time that the new nation of Pakistan is exclusively for Muslims and everyone else will have to go, die or convert. You might be surprised that this fact was very clearly conveyed to each and every one in the remotest villages of Pakistan even when there was no effective radio or newspapers reach in those villages. As an example I can tell you from my personal experience because both my paternal and maternal grandfathers had to run for their lives from their respective villages to refugee camps in India. So Mohammad Ali Jinnah evolved from being a nationalist to a strong supporter of two nation theory. He became wiser and smart. Fair enough. But in the process of making a new nation of Pakistan for Muslims only he inadvertently decimated the hegemony of Muslims in the United India to very weak say in the independent India. This happened because all the Muslims of united India were divided into three nations. India Pakistan and Bangladesh. The result of the ethnic cleansing is very visible in Pakistan and Bangladesh. It is also evident in Indian Punjab and Haryana, where you hardly see any Muslim. By breaking up the monolith of Indian Muslims into three parts, the backbone of Muslim strength is severely broken and now all the Muslims in all the three countries are under heat. This is good for the Indians in the long run because now they can be the rulers of India and decide their fait themselves.
