BTW, I agree that the tournament style should focus on victory types and on those civs that excel at them. There are instances where opposites may be interesting too, like Periclese Greece vs Germany. They couldn't be more different when it comes to city states. If you expand these to 1v1v1 games Periclese, Germany, and America on a pangea map would be cool.

Now you have to do the remaining 2 matches of the one-shot battles. :) I know I'm a minority here, but I'm not for disabling any victory type. It's like removing city-states and barbarians. It severely handicaps the game. Everything is there for a reason, and civs are crafted with one kind of balance in mind: single player on Emperor/Immortal with X civs. Every huge change by suppressing characteristics of the game has its backlash. - Without barbarians isolated civs with room to expand can easily become unstoppable. - Without city-states the diplomatic game loses an entire layer and abilities/agendas related even indirectly to city-states become useless. - Without any victory type several civs start at a disadvantage, since they cannot do what they were primarily designed for.

@@GalacticLebensraum I disable barbarians, because it makes no sense for them to be there. It makes sense in like the first two eras, maybe medieval, but the mid to late game it makes no sense for me to be invaded by a bunch of mountain raiders, with modern infantry during the industrial era.

I once had a religious victory with spain. I had to start with a little pen-insula while France was in north blocking my way and poland on the other coast east. It was a pangea map, but I had to colonize the whole west coast of the pangea map. Well as you guess I stumbled upon Montezuma who declared war on me because for one part I settled too close to him and I converted his city ( wich he didn't like it seems) Luckily I conquered that bastard's cities except his capita, turning him into a city state ;P. Then I had issues with Persian wich were in the middle of the Pangean map. But I didn't had war with him since Poland seemed to wipe the floor with these dudes. I at the end converted every city, from the west coast to the centre of the Pangean map having alliances with France, Poland and Arabia and my city state was Jerusalem ;P Viva España y Deus Vult !!!
