The consistent bad performance of some highly rated named players is the only reasons. BCCI should send them to play the domestic matches, only after there good performance they should be included in the team. Let's just appreciate lathom for his captaincy today. When rishabh pant and Washington Sundar were batting with 50 runs to go just before lunch pant hammered ajaz Patel and looked absolutely fine against him. Rohit sharma or for the fact any other captain in the world (maybe other than stokes) would have changed the bowler with just 50 runs needed cause ajaz was leaking runs. But lathom continued with Patel and he delivered. Absolute brilliance. Probably that's a reason Ashwin under performed this series was due to lack of backing by the captain. Never seen Ashwin not bowl the opening spell in the second innings of a turning track but this time we did see. Our captain didn't trust the process and reacted to what the opponents did.

Whenever rohit plays against a decent team he seems clueless and just lost, look at him against Bangladesh it was brilliant captaincy, his strategy converted a draw to a win, but here he is just lost. Brain dead decision of batting first in first test, showing “intent” with only 150 runs to chase in 3rd. Allowing Tim southee to score more than Indian team combined. We had them if we broke the Tim southee partnership fast even with 46 all out because we scored 450 right after making up for it.

I think Coach should also take some responsibility upon him. Massive change is needed in team as well specially RO-Ko should retire from all format. Their reflexes are not as good as it is required. Main problem is lack of patience to stay in wicket. Apart from Jaiswal and little bit Gill looks like everyone was trying to show how good they are in T20 although they were playing test, even true for Pant, unpredictable. Need Dravid mentality back. Someone has to take responsibility. Test team selection has to be done based on Ranji performance. No automatic selection. BCCI is selecting from IPL performance which needs to be reviewed. We have great cricket minds, hopefully will find a solution.

Rohit is in the test team because of the captaincy shield, his total runs in test cricket are just 4k runs.. and this is his performance since last so many years.. not that great of a test player to save him even at this performance and age, he should be out of the team... This series should be an alarm for the BCCI to set up some rules before getting selected and playing test format: 1) international players should play regular domestic cricket or make them go play county cricket (minimum of 2-3 or more every year) to make them eligible for selection. It should apply for Kohli, Rohit too irrespective of any big name. Else don't select them. Even big players like Smith and all play domestic. That's why they still performing. 2) Selectors should select only test specialists and those players who have the calibre like Dravid, Laxman, Pujara, Rahane who can stay in the crease for hours and be resilient. 3) IPL or ODI should not be the criteria to select the players. Else what's the point of first class players playing ranji when they aren't being selected. 4) India's batters over the past few years just can't seem to handle pressure when there's a collapse. When wickets tumble, they tumble too hard. 36 and 46 All out are big examples to show. India's test team is surely in a decline if they don't rectify all these.

What I personally feel the reason behind the loss is that, in try to make every batsmen too much flexible to change their gameplay, they are unable to play to play their natural game. Then only guy who played his natural game was Rishabh and he was the only one who looked promising with his batting.
