Yes, it is about the story telling and I get the whole "less is more" effect. The simple fact is I said this would be boring without lyrics and it is. This is pop music though, it's MEANT to be simple and catchy and appeal to the masses. She's pretty, I'm sure that helps with marketing also. There are far better lyricists with far better talent on their instruments than this but it doesn't appeal to the mainstream listeners. THAT'S why people think this is "brilliant".

That's subjective. l just think you are being a little harsh basing your opinion off a couple of youtube vids. Have you actually listened to one of her albums or seen her in concert? Check out live vids of songs like Casualty, greed for your love, Cactus that found the beat, this is how it goes, Scar, Warm whispers, beautiful mind, sound of white, the river....Fair enough if you don't like her. I just think she's a little more varied and talented than you are giving her credit for.

I've listened to a bit of them. None of them strike me as absolutely breathtaking, especially how she plays her instruments. She writes catchy simple songs and that's why people like her. Strumming a few chords on a guitar doesn't make you awesome. Go ahead and give me minuses for that.
