Probably my favorite recording of this song... There's a poignance to it that transcends even the brilliance of the original. I understand it's about a mom who's had to adopt her daughter out but, as others here have noted, it can lend itself to nearly any other story of mutual loss. I was introduced to it by an ex-girlfriend during our breakup. She sent it to me as a way to explain where she was because she otherwise didn't have the words. I realized when listening that I felt much the same. It took several years before I could car karaoke this song without crying. My ex taught me a great deal and she was one of the great loves of my life. This song, as melancholy as it is, puts love like that to stone. Handprints on the cavernous walls of our hearts... Symbols for others to find later, should they have the temerity and the desire to delve deep.

From what I understand, this song is written about a woman who has to give her baby up for adoption. But, it does translate nicely into a breaking relationship love song. Can't get enough of her myself. Everything she creates is beautiful. THanks for posting this vid!
