Going from somvarpete and coming down via kukke is the best route. It covers both sides of the hill and somvarpete has very thick forest which gives very different experience but you need to plan it accordingly..

Hi, I have done 3 times, first time in 2010 that time we camped in peak. (Kukke to kukke). In again 2014 done (from somwarpet side) And in Feb 2020 we challenge ourselves and completed in one day. Ultimate experience 👌❤️ 👍 once we should try this we will know the real strength of our body. Our 🧠 give up before the 🏋️

@rohank92924 жыл бұрын
Kumarparvatha - first trek of my life, done in 2015, and four times ever since then. Correction : there's a water source in between in the jungle section and it is where there are two big rocks, not the one big massive boulder that you also encounter on the path, and you've to take a very short walk of hardly 50 m off the main track towards right hand side from the main trail. There should be a big dustbin kept overthere as well as a board on a tree trunk to mark out the water source. At the source, there's a big jungle stream flowing overthere, which should ideally have some water in it even during the dry months.
@Indiahikes4 жыл бұрын
Rohan, the water that is flowing inside the forest has become quite dirty. This stream does not have potable water and is not safe to drink. Filling the water from Kukke is the best option while trekking in the forest section. The next water source is at the Bhattaramane or the forest office.
@rohank92924 жыл бұрын
@@Indiahikes true that the water source in the jungle may not be cent percent portable, but during the time of dire need, when you're super tired and thirsting for water, that stream can be a god sent, and I wouldn't think twice before having it. If required, you can always walk a bit upstream and take the water from there where it would still be a bit cleaner. Besides, I don't know of any polluting sources that may be there further upstream.

I like the idea of asking for deposit for the plastic items. Does the office take the percentage of deposit away if the hikers didn't bring back the exact number of plastic wraps? If so, that might be even better. Thank you very much for this video. Very informative.
@Indiahikes4 жыл бұрын
Isn't it a very simple idea to make people aware of the plastic they are carrying? Because of this initiative, you can see a drastic reduction in plastic on the trek. You are right. They will not give the deposit back if the plastic wrappers do not tally. The forest guard, Abhilash and his team are quite strict. They are doing a great job there to reduce the waste in the mountains. Trekkers have to play their part in leaving the mountains better than what they found them in.

That's great! Just out of curiosity, since you seem like a regular trekker -- which are few of the other treks for which you might want detailed guides like these?

@@Indiahikes I completed almost all treks in Karnataka and some treks near Lonawala. Wish to do Himalayan treks.
@rohank92924 жыл бұрын
@@Indiahikes please make a detailed guide for the Kodadchadri trek. I was once foolish enough to venture out all on my own on that trek and that too on my very first attempt at it. Though, I started from the peak and moved downwards, I encountered enough hurdles on the way. First was a herd of bison grazing in the meadows near the top. Though, they looked at me walking down that meadow cautiously, they kept to themselves munching the grass. Secondly, I was faced with a steep and huge step just next to the waterfall and was apprehensive in climbing it down. Luckily for me, there was a small group of three people along with someone who appeared to be a guide, coming from the opposite side, who helped me clamber down that rock. Then they left and I was once again left all alone. I crossed the waterfall and followed the trail running along the gorge of the waterfall. It climbed up the gorge's wall for a short distance and then simply vanished into the thick jungle in front of me. I was left holding onto the thin trunk of some forest plants on that precipice, and didn't know which way to go. Below, me lay a straight vertical drop of atleast 5-6 m and I knew that if I, who's the last person in the world to have any gymnastic abilities, had a fall then I would've had it! But I couldn't stay overthere all day too. It was already quite late in the evening, dusk was approaching fast, and it being the Sunday evening, there were also no hopes of any other trekkers coming by any more for the day. And who knows if the next trekker in that area would only come by the next weekend, and before that there were n number of dangers to be grappled with - leopards or some other wild animal that could devour me, snakes and scorpions that could bite me, and bisons and elephants who may not like the thought of my being overthere. And my phone's network was zero overthere, so I couldn't even give an SOS call to anyone over there. I decided to brave it out and clambered down that narrow precipice, slowly and cautiously, at times even dangling from the branch of a small tree growing from the hillside that I knew would be strong enough to hold onto my weight, because they are rain forest trees with deep and well entrenched roots. I managed to get down the cliff, made my way across the waterfall and up that big rocky step next to it, and then trekked all the way back upto near the peak where there was a jeep trail and from where I could get a jeep to go back to the main road. In all of this bargain, I had managed to wreck my clothes and tear my pants, but was lucky to have found a jeep before the last light of the day was snubbed out. The jeep took me back to the main road and my other co-passengers in it, who were really good samaritans from the town of Sirsi nearby, gave me a lift till the nearest town in their Maruti van. I caught the night bus back to Bangalore from there. So, I learnt my lesson in the trek that I shouldn't venture out on a trek for the first time without the safety of a guide.

@@rohank9292 You seem to have had quite an adventure. Your story re-emphasizes that it is important to do your research and know the trek well, before you venture into the wilderness. The main aim of the Do-it-yourself trek series is to give credible information for trekkers to go do the the treks on their own. Not just the videos. We are putting up detailed documentation of all these treks on our website, under the DIY section. Here is the link: indiahikes.com/documented-trek/ Kodachadri is on our list :) We will be coming up with the videos soon.

@@Indiahikes another bit of advice that I would like to give is to please include some videos of the place that you're describing in your guidance videos. For example, in this video about the Kumarparvatha trek, you could've probably included a video of or atleast a photo of Bhattaramane, the small gate at the jungle entrance to the trek, and even the village road behind the temple area leading upto it. Also a little bit more details on the second part of the trek which can get somewhat confusing at places, especially at the final climb up the steep rock face of a waterfall just before you reach the peak. That part is the only dangerous part of the trek and the trick is to use a nondescript step way carved out on the left hand side of the waterfall.

Suppose I drive to Kuke, from Bengaluru, which is the best (road condition wise) route? Are there public car parking @ Kuke? Needless to say, this is a very informative video.
@Indiahikes4 жыл бұрын
@mukund the Bangalore-Mangalore highway is the best road to take to Kukke. This route goes via, Hassan, Sakleshpur. One of the best roads in Karnataka. It is a 4 lane express highway all the way till Hassan and then you get the Shiradi Gaht which is also very well laid out. If you are taking this route, you will get around 4 to 5 tolls on your way. Keep a total of Rs.400 just for tolls. There are good parking spots in Kukke. There is a space made by the government there for public parking. You should have any trouble in Kukke.

Good informative video, but I feel the best treks are the Himalayan Treks where you don't need to pay these state governments guys and sometimes bribe them to pitch your tent at their primises .This trek is Mostly crowded with some stupid local people and will definitely not recommend doing it in wkend as you need some time to relax after these long walks. So two days are quite tight to complete the circuit and join back work the next day in Bangalore. Would recommend people to take proper holidays and head to the Northern Himalayas of Himachal and Uttarakhand if you want a good trekking experience and get connected to divine nature.
