Just ordered mine. Thanks for the video and information. The dealer said I needed a whole new motor which is a lie. All I need is the metal gear as you mentioned. Thanks again.

Polaris, should be replacing the plastic piece with an aluminum one themselves. This should not be an aftermarket fix. Do better Polaris!

Well I installed mine today and spent a half hour clarifying things, guess I forgot to hit comment, damn. Anyhow use the motor to move the assembly on and off of the screw. The bearing comes out, put it in the freezer! Trust me it will go back in easier. I used a little anti-seize on the screw. The whole assembly was really well made, don't know why they used the plastic piece, weak link.
@MTSayman2 жыл бұрын
This is not for beginners. Taking off the plastics & the windshield is no problem but... getting the motor assembly apart, definitely not an easy task. Got it done, but plan on spending 2.5 - 3 hours. The new aluminum part is grade A.

Great stuff! I wonder if the metal replacement part would be better if made from bronze for a better metal to metal relationship than steel to aluminium?
@PaulArys3 жыл бұрын
The only thing is the bronze will react like copper with water and high temperature and expand and rust! So I think aluminum is probably adécuate!
@s.in.bagger99333 жыл бұрын
@@PaulArys did you put any lithium, moly, or anti-seize on the threads to prevent any future binding of the threads? I'm sure the threads are stainless, but the raw aluminum could eventually get some oxidation causing binding.
@Hipporider3 жыл бұрын
@@s.in.bagger9933 that was my concern . I thought bronze was used as a bearing metal in situations like this due to bronze providing a passive form of lubrication ? I'm no expert in this matter, so I'm pleased to hear more information
@Dan_Murphy3 жыл бұрын
@@Hipporider Bronze usually is used on lead screws. Thats what is used on all the lead screws on my 3d printers. I would assume the engineers at Indian used plastic for a reason but who knows. Either way, they either used the wrong type of plastic, or used the wrong method of cutting the threads, since they're getting ripped out.

You intensionally DID NOT show how you attached the new aluminum piece… why? I bet you didn’t just SLIDE it on like you slid off the stripped plastic piece. And then as others have said, why in the world did you not apply anti-seize or lithium or marine grease to the main screw??? Lubrication is the only way this new steel/aluminum is going to last. Fyi… my oem part is still working at 14K miles, prob cuz (1) I don’t play with it 10x during a 1hr ride, (2) I never run it to the stops, (3) at 800mi I pulled the fairing to install a new headlight… looking around I saw that worm-drive & my little brain said “dang I bet some lube would help that work smoother & last longer; then brushed the screw with a light coat of waterproof marine grease. Now you need to do the same; just reach in between the windshield slot & lube the drive. Btw, big kudos to Steve for making the part 👍🏼
