I actually used a vinegar jug, leaving the neck in place, I cut a panel out of the sloped shoulder. The neck helped keep the handle perpendicular. I didn't trust either my eyeball judgment or the stability of drying concrete. Alas, I had to give up the gada when I was forced to move. Thanks for this, It wouldn't have occurred to me to push the handle in. I went nuts trying to fill around it.

You are verrrrry through and methodical in your craft. If you don't mind me asking, were you a swiss watchmaker ?

I just made my first one and it turned out to be 22 pounds. I was going for closer to 15 but I overshot in a little bit. Is that to much to start at? I was thinking about making another one that weigh less and working up to the 22 pounds.

I would recommend 7 to 10 kg as a starting weight. You have to consider that when you swing a Gada, the weight will triple as the Gada drops behind you. It will be the heaviest as it crosses your spine. That means that a 7 kg Gada will increase in weight to 21 kg due to gravitational pull, and you have to then pull it up. It's something that you have to learn to deal with.
