The F 35 should only be considered as a last resort & we will have to closely scrutinize the strings attached by the US if this aircraft is offered to India. In any case this will not be available "off the shelf" and we may have to wait several years. For everyone commenting we shouldn't take F35, believe me, I also view US the same way you do and so does the Mr. Chopra, but our hands are tied here. China is going to field 400 J20s in Ladakh by 2027. Meanwhile AMCA is going to come by 2035 on most optimistic timeline, and Russia is unable to deliver Su-57s. For the decade, our only option is American F35s. Best course of action is to buy 100 or so F35s and make AMCA the utmost national priority. We all have feelings about the US but our air force's capabilities come first.

Nobody even knows if planes that China claims are 5th gen actually live up to the claims. It may not be stealthy at all. 5th gen is more a marketing buzzword than an actual technical parameter. TEDBF will supposedly be the first (mostly stealth) "5th Minus" gen aircraft made in India. All kinds of terminologies are being invented. Best to rely on IAF technical guys for answers rather than clueless guys who fall for marketing terms.

AMCA clean sheet without export restriction. From India point of view, it seems P&W, GE, Safran and RollsRoyce is one group. Russia Saturn and Klimov is another group. Both groups have their own lobby and interests. Though it might seem negative comment none will fully participate in clean sheet engine design without export restriction. Just like China which brought AL31engine rights when Soviet Union collapse either company should go serious cash crunch or bankrupt then they might give IP rights. It seems the Indian Airforce doesn't need F35 for another 3 years and even the US is also not keen to export to India. The Rafale M Thales Radar provided is good and has good range. What's the advantage of our radar? Please consider integrating Astra MK1, MK2 and Brahmos missiles. 🙏☝☝ Sukhoi 30 MKI Indian orders are over. HAL should explore the export potential of it by bringing IP rights for the AL31FP engine. 55% Indigenous content in AL31FP is still not enough. AMCA engine development with JV for export potential without approval. I doubt GE, Rollsroyce and P&W will agree. Chances are France Safran and Russia Saturn may join or help.

Su-30MKI and Tejas MK1/MK1A with Kaveri is all that's needed. Keep updating the Kaveri and MK1A to keep it cutting edge. These 2 aircraft in sizeable numbers are all India really needs to defend itself over the next 10 years till AMCA shows up. Meanwhile also keep pushing ahead with MK1A (with GE F414), MK2, TEDBF and various unmanned fighter programs. This is the only realistic plan.

Reality is we are still a pretty incompetent country, the faster you realize it the better. We still don’t even have a hold off the Teja’s MK2 nor Mk1A production. AMCA will take 15 years to come in decent numbers(don’t believe any timelines given, as we are already 1 decade late to what they had initially told us) it’s a fact. We have to find a stop gap and then on side continue R&D on our programs. We are always behind and underprepared. During Pakistan skirmish too we didn’t have BVR’s.
