It seems time has come to change India defence strategy with respect to aerial threats. Since we may not be able to produce or procure enough 5th Gen or even 4.5 Gen aircrafts within a short time, we may need to concentrate more on Air Defence rather than a fighter based doctrine. We need to strengthen our layered air defence radar systems to use multiple frequency bands to detect even stealth aircrafts and focus on long range and hypersonic SAMs

TEDBF should be based on twin KAVERI. Rafale's M-88 engines give 50kN / 75 kN dry / afterburner thrust & has a payload of 9000 kg. Kaveri has given upto 52kN / 73 kN already & Brahmos made afterburner will take it beyond 80kN. Kaveri is 250 kg heavier ; so 2×250= 500 kg less paylaod Even if less efficient design = 1000 kg less so it would still have a payload of 7500 kg - will actually join air force unlike American engine based aircrafts or like Jaguars during Kargil conflict.

I think the best method to do things with amca/tedbf is to get a engine manufacturer like safran who is willing to make something for us and have 2 more partners, one a psu and another a private sector like tata advance systems or adani defence. The resultant venture should start a project of developing a engine worthy of 5+ gen aircraft and develop a lower power varient from existing safran derivatives and use it to make atleast a 50 of the aircrafts which could be done under HAL and Dassault if possible. Then after the engine is ready, we can go forward with it and install it to make a 5+ gen aircraft that is capable of competing with f35 or future generation of f35 or su57s or J35s. This way we can make the process a bit faster and also develop r&d induction into the country easier. Rn I'm against giving all orders to HAL because ik even if they can make the thing, we don't have the time to go through the long process and having private sector efficiency is necessary rn

Compared to the Kaveri engine, the total power output of the Snecma M88 is roughly the same. However, while the Kaveri engine cannot even be used in the Tejas, the Snecma M88 makes the Rafale an excellent fighter jet, for which India paid $250 million per unit (compared to China’s J-20 at $120 million per unit). France has a fundamental design limitation in producing large jet engines, but when it comes to medium-sized engines, they excel. France possesses the most advanced technologies for producing key components of the Snecma M88 engine, such as blisks (integrally bladed disks), powder-metallurgy disks, single-crystal high-pressure turbine blades with ceramic coatings, and thermostructural composites. These advanced technologies are missing in the Kaveri program, and India is unlikely to acquire this level of expertise anytime soon. These features, combined with other advanced technologies, make the Rafale an outstanding 4th-generation fighter. Comparing it to the Tejas is unnecessary.

IAF Chief is right. Due to USA not providing engines everybody is blaming HAL. It is USA s fault or game or supply issue. HAL and other public sector has to work in coordination with private sector and infact private sector should have a seperate identity. In USA it is Boeing and Lockheed Martin then it is Sukhoi and Mig in Russia. Although it will be quite expenseful but it will work as a backup and parallel to HAL and internal healthy competition and above all the national security will not be at risk and compromise. It is more than a decade still we are thinking of buying which aircraft whereas look at the smaller neighboring countries whose procurement process is so clear transparent and fast. We are still thinking of making 42 squadrons for last decades and we have declined in it. There is something wrong. Either make public sector only producer or manufacturer with lot of investments in infrastructure and manpower. And if government does not want to invest then invite private sector with larger share. The world knows about indias private sectors capabilities. Or both public and private sector should work together. The end result is the output of aircrafts. Good luck.

We have to adopt Chinese policy. Our Kaveri give 76 kn thrust more than M 88. We can develop Tejas MK3 with twin Engine(ORCA). Basically ADA required 3-4 years for designing a Fighter planes. That can be used as Testbed. Actually we need R & D ministry under PMO. So that fund issues will not delayed. DRDO comes under defence ministry, they are facing funds issue.

I don't why are you asking for Tejas mk3 wakeup buddy till we complete the procurement of nearly 250 Tejas mk2 it will be 2040s , others nations have already started retiring 4.5 gen jets and working on 6 th gen jets so why should we a develop a 4.5 gen jets which we will get in 2050s . Actually we should focus on complete indeginisation of AMCA , increase it's production rate and should also start work in the field of 6 th gen fighter jets by next 4-5 years . As we will be having - 270 su30 mki + 36 Rafael + 180 Tejas mk1a + 270 Tejas mk2 + 43 Tejas mk1 that is nearly 40-45 squadrons ( 720- 810) of 4.5 gen fighter jets , Still you want 4.5 gen Tejas mk3 ? Wake up we need to look for the future 🇮🇳🇮🇳

@SoumyaNayak-vx8qg What Chinese are doing, they induct limited quantity of whatever they developed. Then they keep on refining and Upgrading. They made CH 1 then CH 2,3,4,5. Sameway WS 10, WS 13 and WS 15. They throw Prototype and then keep on upgrading. Our Defence want everything in first attempt. By the time DRDO developed, technology get outdated. We have seen Fate of Nishant, Tapas, Arjun MK1 and ATGS.

@@SoumyaNayak-vx8qg ADA and Govt has made mistake that they developed Tejas MK1A and Tejas MK2 on GE 404 and GE 414 engines only. While making prototype we had to consider EJ 200, RD 33 and Kaveri engine. Till you don't have your proven engine, everybody will Blackmail or arm twist like GE is doing by delaying Engine. Since Kaveri engine has 73 Kn which is not enough for Tejas MK1A. So if we develop Tejas MK3 with twin Engine, just prototype also. It will prove our Kaveri engine. Or we should go for ground High Altitude test facility and Flying Testbed. So that we should have proven indigenous engine. Upgradation and modifications can be done continuously.

Without single crystal blade technology in India mot a single jet engine going to produce so how you can blame HAL

I think it would be a great initiative to merge both AMCA and TEDBF projects because it will not only arm our Navy with a advance twin engine 5th gen fighter jets over the future CATOBAR carriers but it will also increase funding by merging both programs as other nations like china and turkey and usa are planning to arm their carriers with j31 f35 and kann like 5th gen jets so why should our navy go for a 4++ gen jet. IN should also join AMCA program for a Naval Variant which would be future ready with our catobar carriers 🇮🇳🇮🇳

HAL Should demonstrate the Tejas assembled without engines . then the IAF chief would get a moment of pause. All these juicy press gossips started hoping India will pay another 25 billion for IAF top brass dream venture of rafale. Along with the 10 billion we are paying for 26 marine and 3 kalvari class. If each kalvari is 1 billion then 7 billion for 26 rafales. Bought media was saying cost reduced from 56000 crores to 29000 crores in their dreams and paid defence influencers ,second time repeat order wont cost much becuase of infra and training already available. Now with this order rafale costing 280 miiliok a dud jet with no combat . and these neanderthals have no thought about the upgrade package costing same.
