The real question is why are these 1 Medium + 1 Heavy in MRFA indicating IAF requirements are expanding faster than fulfillment - with some of the answer in the first segment because IAF needs a Wild Wiesel platform to carry Rudram ARM along with 3 massive Lo + Mid + Hi band SEAD EW pods like Next Generation Jammers - that are too large for Tejas.2 - to ensure Wild Wiesels survive after going down the HQ9 or S400 hole...

India now doesnt need any aircraft if HAL is able to make AMCA with nuclear capabilities not even rafales. To cover up rafales HAL can make mk2 with twin engine with twin seater. If given contract now it will take 3 years to deliver the first aircraft during which HAL can take out 1st or 2nd prototype. Now no need to give anything to anyone. Everything HAL DRDO ADA GODREJ TATAS L&,T and other local companies can make. Only different engines can be imported such as m88 414 or other till the time kaveri in not installed. Save 25 billion and invest in HAL and local companies. Please consider.

Out of 25 billion dollars just invest 5 billion dollars in HAL and see the unimaginable results by Indian engineers both public and private. Rafales can be replaced by ORCA or mk2 with twin engines. @@ajaybhaskar5052 It is not that simple. It is not the money. If the issue is only money, government would have done that as it will save billions of dollars which no one refuse. First there is no twin engine MK2 as that will require lot of modification making it new jet. No one will do when they are planning for AMCA. Second comparing a jet which is not even in paper with top of the line Rafale is not correct. Rafale did not achieve this position just like that. It took so much iteration with Mirage and then to Rafale to get into this position.

Actually modern Networked Layered Air Defence Systems with many more much more affordable shorter range SAM are far more effective than fewer much more expensive and far less mobile 400km SAM requiring massive Radar - especially against 5G VLO Strikers or VLO Cruise Missiles that can still only be Targeted by largest most powerful Radar at less than 100kms - with longer range SAM most effective for BMD...

we are already manufacturing AL-31 ( with dry thrust approx 76kN ) . if GTRE gets a nod from Russia & GOI - a marine engine based on it may give an output of approx 76 ÷ 46 × 12 MW = ~ 20 MW ( as kaveri marine is generating 12MW )

IAF should explore whether the Tejas Mk 2 can be converted into the Sukhoi Checkmate or Su 75 kind of 5th Generation strike fighter. This is what Sweden is also trying to do with its Gripen E (convert it to Su 75 like single engine 5th Gen).

Boeing has failed technical round by IAF. The F-16, F-21/ 18 etc have decades old electronic cockpit features. Which will be out of use in next 20yrs & also no value addition in tech know-how to HAL.
