Just to clarify the confusions, Durga Puja is for all and celebrated everywhere. However, Unesco conferred this honour to the Durga Puja of WB, specifically of Kolkata because of the unique way it has been celebrated here and the inclusive spirit exhibited in Kolkata through its Durga Puja. Hence it is shared by many countries But here, the way of celebrating Durga Puja in particularly Kolkata, got intangible cultural heritage tag. In general Durga Puja is celebrated in whole of India along with in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Thailand. But only the style of celebration of Kolkata got this tag. Thats why this cannot be shared by Bangladesh.

I'm from Kolkata and a Bengali and have criticised a lot of things about the city and Bengal but never ever Durga Puja celebrations were one of them. As far as I've seen, it's one of the best, or if not the best festival in the entire world in a lot of ways. I am not religious so these lot of ways in which I think it's one of the best involve, the sheer creativity in the design of the pandals and the idols ranging from the choice of the materials to the intricate decorations all connected in a single theme unique to that pandal and unique to that year; community festivities and gatherings in local housing societies like mine; no shortage of pandals to visit and marvel at; the fairs around the pandals giving range of street foods; and the lighting around the city especially near the pandals which you can from sunset to sunrise. Very good decision from UNESCO and it should have come earlier but also the management around the pandal should get better to ensure that international tourists or tourists in general get to watch it without too much hustle in the queues, maybe have different queues or increase the days of visits even more or any other way which I can't think of right now.

How Ironic, one one hand The Bengal government passed an order to stop Durga Pooaj to allow Muslim Festival procession . Courts had to be dragged into this to seek justice. Now UNESCO is recognising the Heritage which is much deserved. She will find a way to take credit for this, it is in her nature.

What she did is.. Stop the immersion for that day..... Idols immersion isn't a big thing what matter is immersion of ghat... The holy pot... That's the main thing....
