Mom gave me a box of old coins. Just b4 we were talking about stuff gone missing over the years and she was talking about some old nickel she had thats gone. She gave me this box. Inside loose coins and few tiny boxes. I opened a box and pulled out this tissue. Thought it was empty. Said maybe this is the box your nickel was in then out fell one of these indian half eagle gold coins ! Its a amazing coin i love it. I then said , maybe this is the one you thought was a nickel. Good times 😃

The old ANA grading guide from 1977 offers great tips on grading Indian Head Eagles. I find that an EF coin usually will have wear a below the chin around the first digit of the year and the lower feather detail is IMPORTANT. Also look at the headband for wear and if the cheek of the Indian's is dull or flattened somewhat. Dealers tell me that it is a hard coin to grade unless you are are getting very high AU or into MS, and of course below EF it is easy to grade but that area between low EF and AU is hard to differentiate. Still I love this coin and with my budget the most I can afford for most dates is AU or EF. Maybe one or two coins in very low MS unless Gold prices continue their drop in 2021. When this video was made it was a little easier to get high AU and low MS $2.5 gold coins.

How best to tell your $2.50 quarter eagle isn’t … cleaned .. or in any way altered!? I heard the best proof fool way is to just get it graded/slabbed and even if it doesn’t grade and it receives and UNC cleaned .. then it proves it’s 100% real … but does certainly hurt the price value 😢😢😢

My favourite coin. Coincidentally I have one to send to you sometime as well as a 1987 gold panda. A recent 30th Birthday present to myself. Also I hate to be that guy, but technically the design is a 'sunken relief' rather than 'incuse'

I think they're the 2nd most beautiful American piece ever. I almost bought one yesterday - but the 3 I had to choose from at my LCS weren't graded yet so I was hesitant. I do have a 2 newby gold questions - is it better to buy these or high graded examples of 2000-2020 1/4th gold piesces? Secondly I paid 550 for a 2001 G$10 NGC MS69 @ my LCS from an older gentleman and I can't tell from the NGC site if I hit the jackpot or not - does the price on NGC reflect the value accurately or not?

Playing the devils advocate. How can a pure gold coin look so nice? Those are really old coins. Maybe in a bank mostly, but probably counted daily for inventory? Whats the typical daily life on such an expensive coin at that time? I would think its a fake in such good condition. I might purchase the coin with a bullet hole first. lol
