Indian Navy's evolution can be seen through these 4000 ton displacement ships:- Rajput class Destroyers 1980-2030 4000 tons Talwar class Frigates 2003-2050 4000 tons Next Gen Corvettes 2030-2070 5000 tons We went from ships of these size being Destroyers to now being Corvettes in two generations. That said, it is high time they remove that Russian-origin SAM on Talwar and install the Indian VL-SRSAM on it quickly. One Rajput class destroyer has already got the upgrade. 10 Talwar class ships, 3 Shivalik class ships, 10 P-15/A/B class ships and 4 Kamorta class ships all need this upgrade.

@@abhinaysingh8306 I said Next Gen Corvette, whose DAC approval came in 2022, RFP was released earlier this year and contract signing is expected next year. As far as Next Gen Destroyers are concerned, I don't think its got even a AoN till now. Aim with Next Gen Destroyers is to have ALL subsystems be Indian (except for Gas Turbines, which'll be Rolls Royce MT-30). Major Indian subsystems meant to be key parts of the Next Gen Destroyer like the LR-MFR GaN AESA radar, the new X-band radar, missiles like AD-1, MPDMS, VL-SRSAM, etc are still in testing and even more subsystems like a new Naval SRGM, new CIWS, new Universal VLS, missiles like AD-2, ERSAM, XRSAM and LDHCM are still under design and prototype fabrication stage. I don't think they can size the warship properly until these subsystems are properly developed. It will be too risky to go ahead with designing the warship until most of these systems complete their development and testing cycles. These warships will be the centerpiece of our fleets after all. It is important to get the design of NGD right because by the time these ships enter production, our Naval capital expenditure budget will have tripled, which will allow us to build one or two such ships every year, unconstrained by foreign suppliers. NGD will be to the Indian Navy what Arleigh Burke class Destroyers are to the US Navy. I suspect we'll end up building at least 20 if not more of these NGDs in the next few decades till we celebrate 100th year of the Republic of India.
