Indian Paradise-Flycatcher nest with rufous morph male incubating eggs, filmed at Taranga Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, Gujarat, India.
Every bird photographer dreams of capturing this beauty in a camera frame. It"s incredibly beautiful tail feathers never fail to amaze us. We got our chance during our visit to Taranga Hill, we noticed this nest on a roadside tree -cradling a most beautiful bird IPFC. Despite the bustling activity of travelers, local woodcutters, and shepherds passing by, the bird remained undisturbed, sitting quietly on its nest. The choice of such a busy location for nesting remains a mystery, perhaps driven by a survival strategy against predators. It is really charming to watch IPFC on nest showing off its long orange ribbons flowing with wind and a bright blue bill and eyelid wattle, presenting a spectacle amid the roadside commotion.
After one week we revisited the site but sadly nest is empty and no IPFC activity was registered nearby.
Nest is a neat, deep, cone-shaped cup of grasses, fine roots, bast fibres and few leaves, bound together with spider web and thickly plastered with spider web and spider egg cases (giving it a silvery colour), lined with rootlets and silky vegetable down; usually placed 1-6 m above ground, typically woven around a single vertical hanging branch of tree or sapling, often bits of web and leaf form a hanging “tail” beneath cup.
