Deccan Queen was once introduced as a premium train, if not luxury train like palace on wheels and golden chariot. It should be completely Vistadomed, instead of those non AC LHB. Even Deccan Queens color combination should match with Vistadomes Honey Comb patterns

I personally liked Duronto livery it use to look grand with that Duronto liveried WAP7. Also i find LHB Duronto livery better than ICF one. But yes i do agree that Deccan queen livery is bad and also utkrisht was the worst decision they took for livery. Blue ICF coaches were far better than utkrisht.

The suburban trains of the big cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad etc. and falling under various railway zones; were all characterstically liveried, which looked quite better than the nowadays Monotonic suburban-livery consisting of purple strips and letters over a monotonic white base! That small regional diversity, was also a beautiful "unity in diversity" imagery.....(which is one of the unique promoting ideas of the Indian Railways!)

Why do I feel that a pastel matte color pallete will be great fit to accommodate for bad workmanship. Glossy finishes are always yo hard to get correct. Scaling the entire process is an interesting challenge in iteself. But I guess hum Indians ko bhi pale colors nahin but kuch bright, contrasting and glossy colors pass and hai.

Agree, it really looks like the people regulating/choosing colors have no sense of decor. Looks third world, really sad considering that India is trying to make an impact on the world. Wish they would look to Europe for some inspiration! Case in point: One only has to see the majestic Maharaja express being pulled by an old beat up engine that has not been cleaned in years probably. Why not put a newly designed "vintage" looking engine in front of the train to make it more palatable to the world?

IR really needs to either, hire Industrial Designers (Product and Transport designers) or have contracts with design agencies, to design functional, aesthetically pleasing and ergonomically pleasing trains. Even as a railfan, I can say that our trains don't look welcoming. They look rundown and depressing. The interiors don't look warm and inviting but cold, harsh and tacky. The interiors and exteriors don't invoke happiness or comfort or warmth, let alone inspiration and pride. Nobody really likes to stay onboard these trains. They are thoughtlessly hammered together in the name of ' austerity '. This ' austerity ' is driving away potential customers. Even many of the AC coaches look like a jhuggi with an AC. Right now, people use trains because they are the default choice for most journeys. There are not many options for most routes. Its not because they like being onboard these trains. Its not like that they have specifically chosen the train over other viable options. And to those who will complain about ' what about poor people ', to them I say, ' Do you really want the poor to keep on being in depressive environments? '. When will we Indians realise the benefits and importance of good Industrial Design?

I beg to differ with the points shared to support the topic. I am a writer at Quora who is writing answers based on Indian Railways for 5 years. 1. Deccan Queen is a LHB train. 2. Livery decision for Utkrist coaches were taken after a mass voting. According to me , the reason for poor work on colour scheme is lack of innovation and Political influence. Decisions are taken overnight these days which hampers the end product.

Bhai aaj kal mere mann ki baaton par hi video kaise bana rahe ho?? Glad you pointed out this issue of Indian trains. Aisa lagta hai unhe deliberately ugly banaane ki koshish ki jaa rahi hai. Naye of ICF coaches ke color scheme ke saame puraana blue wala color hi kaafi better lagta tha, jabki woh khud mein bhi kuch khaas nahi tha. Also the unique livery that Rajdhani trains used to have has now been made common among all trains with LHB coaches. Agar Tejas and Humsafar ke liye special decal livery hai to Rajdhaani ke liye kyon nahi? Why one of india's most premium trains is aesthetically being treated like any random mail/Express train? The RDSO seriously needs some super major reforms! It would not only make Indian trains look better but also speed up the R&D process. The new Vande Bharat rake has only a few minor improvements over the previous version. Despite that it had to go through full-fledged trial runs for weeks, as if it was some newly designed train. All this because of the stupid RDSO guidelines. This needs to end!

Train livery design is all about clean lines which go well with the contours of the train shell. The duronto has nothing of that sort. It looks awful. What is it with Indian designs and making everything ' ornate ' and complicated. Good design is all about being deceptively simple.

I still cannot forget how badly designed was the screen casing in Vande Bharat. The screen was put inside an iron box which looked so bad and also the graphics sucked! Feels like I reached 2000s.

Keeping all this aside. Let's talk about facts Is Indians railways profitable? Are we(citizens/passengers) good enough to have world class trains. What's the scenario with Train18 , stone pelting on it.🤦🏻‍♂️ Do we maintain sanity. We should be happy & satisfied what we are getting.

It's not that bad how u described it. Not all livery look bad, definately some are bad looking but as u urself mentioned those r the old ICF coaches which are anyways going to phase out by 2024 fully. Overall u just showed 3-4 designs, mostly ICF and i think Duronto livery is liked widely. Wrapping of Tejas coaches are an intelligent move because they can be easily replaced after maintenance or damages.
